It is Unknown Subject as everyone has mentioned and if you really want to know more about this stuff you should read Mindhunter by John Douglas. He's the guy who worked for the FBI and basically created the Behavior Profiling Unit there and the whole profiling thing in general. He was the technical consultant for Silence of the Lambs and the guy who played Clarice's boss (Jack Crawford played by Scott Glen) was supposed to be him. This was his first book and one of his best althought his subsequent offerings are very goor as well.

It's a bit annoying. I worked for law enforcement for over 26 years and never heard "unsub" used before. I guess it means unknown subject.

it means unknown subject of investigation. it used to stump me to until i herd them say it on the show one day.
