I had the same problem with my daughter at that age. If your family that your going to be staying with ask if its cool if you can use the sink. I did that and it was so easy. Also at your hotel that was hard to do. I did the sponge bath thing. Or take a bath or shower with him and have your hubby b there when your done with him. That helps so much. I did that alot with our daughter and it was so much easier. Good Luck

Honestly, the baby tub is more hassle than it's worth, even at home.
I always used the sink, lined with a towel, and held the baby in a sitting position with one hand, and sponged him off with a soapy washcloth in the other.
What my grandma always liked to do may work a little better in a hotel. She folded a large bath towel in half and laid it flat on the bottom of the tub, towards the end without the tap (the water is always slightly shallower at that end, for drainage). Then she put about 2 inches of water in the tub, and laid the baby down on the towel, feet towards the tap. Keep a hand on the baby so he doesn't roll over, and you can just kind of wipe him down with a soapy cloth.
In 'an icky hotel' though, you might want to pack a few cleaning supplies of your own to make sure the tub or sink is really clean, as well as your own soft towels for baby. Those hotel ones can be scratchy!
I never had to worry about it when I took my son on his first vacation, because he was sitting up on his own them, and used to bathing int he big tub.
And if you're still just really worried, they do make those inflatable tubs that you could pack, but I really don't think they'd be much help. If there was one piece of baby equipment that I found the most useless, it was the bathtub.
Good luck, and have fun on your vacation! Hope your little man does well on the plane. We haven't tried that one yet!

We've never used a baby bathtub. I've always just washed out the tub really well, and then ran a bath and hopped in. If I'm lucky, I actually get to relax - ALONE - for a few minutes (woo hoo) but most of the time, dh delivers the baby to me immediately.
On vacation, I'd do the same thing, or with a smaller baby, use the sink. We have a chubby 10 month old, so the sink wouldn't work for us. If you aren't comfortable bathing with your little one, lay a towel at the bottom of the tub. It makes it more comfy and creates a non-slip grip.
If you're really worried about the tub being dirty, bring a container of the clorox wipes. I love those.

Just bath the baby in the sink while at peoples house, at the hotel put a towel down in the tub and put just a little water in the tub, lay the baby on the towel. It will be fine, don't worry.
OH and do not feed the baby while in the air...they will throw up.
I know!

You can buy inflatable tubs for travel. They are available online and at Target. If you do not want to do that at the hotel lay a towel in the tub and fill the tub with about an inch of water. Lay baby on top of the towel and wash. Granted the towel will be soaked but who cares thats what maids are for. Atleast your baby will not be laying directly on the tub floor.

I hate those infant bath tubs! Biggest waist of money. I give my 7 week old baths with me. He loves it and it's great bonding time. Just bleach the tub in the hotel before you get in and also have dad help to hand the baby to you and help get him out.

we showered with y son at 3 months because we had the same problem, traveling to hotels out of town for a wedding.
Didn't want to lug the tub with us, one of us got in the shower with our back to the water, sat down and held him on our lap so the water wasnt going in his faceand the other knelt outside the tub and gave him a quick sponge bath, then took him out and dried and dressed him

Place a towel down in the bottom of the tub (or preferably a kitchen sink) and bathe him on that in a couple inches of water.

We just had the same issue. I sprayed the hotel room bathroom sink out eith Lysol and rinsed well with hot water. I placed a hand towel in the bottom of the sink and used it as a non-slip surface and was able to keep a better grip on her since she was at waist level. It worked very well.

I wash my baby in the shower with me. I only ever use the tub as a place to sit her down or on the occasions when I don't feel like getting wet. I can see how some people wouldn't want to do this though.
If I had to improvise, I think I'd use a sink or get an inflatable travel tub like this one:
