The Urantia book. This book contains the history of evolution and the history of our beliefs. How we have come to believe what we believe. The title is an indication of its unique qualities. You will not need an authors name, for there is no claim to authorship. And yes, Urantia is spelled correctly. A serious dissertation on the evolution of humanity; spiritual and material.

Life of Pi - Yann Martel
as stated beginning...it is a "story that will make you believe in God." Since reading it it has kept me up at night, it's very vivid, with action, and you can never stop thinking about it because the final question is never really answered.

if they like non-fiction, the Da Vinci Code is good because it combines history with a great story. If you aren't looking for heavy reading... 100 simple secrets of happy people is a great inspirational book.
