Anyone who has read eastern philosophy understands that the outward mind can never truly gratify or make someone happy. Happiness comes from the realization that things will only bring momentary satisfaction. It is contentment and inner peace that is the key.

Just like the most attractive job candidate is one who doesn't really need that job, a wise person appreciates nice things that money can buy, but is never a slave to them. It is that sense of detachment that allows a person to really navigate through the world easily- enjoying but never needing anything in it.

One must first know theirself and determine what happiness is for them. It is an individual thing. What makes you happy may not make me happy. There are different kinds of happiness like there are different kinds of love. Contentment and satisfaction are sometimes happiness unrealized, sometimes simple things we take for granted are happiness overlooked, perhaps you are happy and just don't know it. A point to ponder.

happiness can always be achieved in other ways than gratification, money, etc.
for example i find happiness in seeing my significant other every day. i find happiness in art (viewing and creating). i find happiness in listening to music.
