I honestly feel there is no way to control today's media which has become a monster and constantly serves it's masters who manipulate it to their advantage through lies, fabrications and and far fetched commentaries and columns. The only way is to create parallel elements/organs of media who independently and honestly do their job regardless of monetary gains, a nearly impossible task.

Well...that is the freedom of speech. Where you can say what you want when you want. There has only been a couple of times where I have seen the gov. be able to stop them and that is during war time. When the stupid reporters would be riding along with them broadcasting there Location. You'd think they would be smarter than that. The thing most people don't take into consideration with most of this stuff is to find out if that news group who is reporting is a Republican, Democrat, Liberal, or Conservative. It's also on the people to take the information they give us and logically translate it into use full information and know the difference between bad reporting and someone who's done there homework. To many people just take for granted what reporters say and do no investigations of there own to find the real truth then spread that around like a Bible.

The truth is that those who control the media usually create these situations on purpose. It makes good news. The government can only control so much...there is freedom of speech, freedom of the press, etc.... However, there is also slander, here say, etc..
That's why it's important to get your news from more than one source. If you only watch TV, you're not likely to get the whole truth. Then again, you may never get the whole truth at all.

I've noticed the fox news sometimes has a panel of experts who criticize other news casters and their material . Other than that I
see a tremendous void to be filled .

The media will never be allowed to spread my legs.
For I am TOILET, quantum fearless Master of TOILET NATION.
Without TOILETS, the earth would diminish in milliseconds.
TOILET says for you to concentrate on not reading the newspaper for a while, and to focus on your own perceptions, ideologies, and judgments about your views.

the government can control them, only in foreign countries. freedom of speech and the press, our constitution. today, we have what is called libel, the only thing controlling the papers. sue a paper for libel, they'll double check their sources next time.
