I don't think Babel will because it's drawn many comparisons to Crash, as being a well-made film but nothing truly staying or phenomenal, and is only a nominee because it touts its own importance.
The Queen might win because its lead, Helen Mirren, is the only nominee of all of the categories who is sure to win (Jennifer Hudson for Supporting Actress, though, is also certain) and that is pulling a lot of weight for the film in this category. Stephen Frears is also well-renowned, though to a lesser extent than is Scorsese, but many are expecting this to be his year to win a major Oscar.
I think The Departed should win, but we'll see.

I want "Little Miss Sunshine" to win. It has its flaws, and is not quite as good as "The Departed," but it is so hard to make a good comedy these days. LMS was a breath of fresh air with originality, wit, and just a lot of talent behind it. That being said, I won't be upset if "The Departed" wins.
I think it is going to be between "The Departed" and "Babel" for who will win. "Little Miss Sunshine" does have a chance at an upset, but I think more people are more passionate about "The Departed" and "Babel."
"The Queen" has no chance at winning. Regardless of the fact that it doesn't deserve to be nominated and it is completely overrated, it just doesn't have the buzz that the former three have.

Will: Little Miss Sunshine
Should: Letters from Iwo Jima (The Departed and Babel are also deserving)
Robbed of a nomination: Half Nelson, Blood Diamond

I think the power, directing, and acting of The Departed will pull through despite its goriness.
Little Miss Sunshine I believe will win Original Screenplay, but not Best Picture.
The Queen is probably the second choice for Best Picture if Departed doesn't win.

I agree with you! I feel that both 'the departed' and 'the queen' have the potential to take the gold man home, but i have a feeling that the latter will take it home.Reason being that the Golden Globes are normally a pretty accurate forecast of the Oscars. But, lets hold thumbs for 'the departed'.
I would also be keen to see 'the blood diamond' to get the top honour. Leonardo Di Caprio did a great South African accent. Not perfect, but the best I've heard from an american to date.
ps: i am south african

I think the top two contenders are Letters From Iwo Jima and The Departed. You're talking about two masters who are at the peak of their game, Clint Eastwood and Martin Scorcese. Martin hasn't won an Oscar yet (!), so now maybe his time. But Clint Eastwood has proven that he can win an Oscar for coughing.

have not considered it - yet pictures seem tremendous on classified ads ! my info will come from my grandson - the in homestead critic . 'Avatar' would charm to extremely some ppl who can take excitement in the not uncomplicated artwork to make the outstanding imagery - notwithstanding the action picture 'priceless' would pull the heart strings of others .
