I have a 4 year old HP laptop with a faulty battery. It's maximum battery usage is 12 min and it will not charge while running. Generaly, it's a pretty fast computer though. Is there anything useful I can use it for?

note: I have a newer PC that I use all the time so I don't want to buy a new (very expensive) battery for the laptop. There was also no recall on the battery or pc, so I'm stuck with it.

Thanks for the help.

The moment you buy a PC or notebook, the price will depreciate (In a accounting book, every year depreciate 20%), hence, it will be quite sad to know the price you can fetch if you are lucky (Don't waste time on ebay).

With the new Vista and ever so demanding software avail within these 4 years, it will even more challenge to get a buyer.

My recommendation is to donate to schools or charity organisation. Painless and you will feel better as a person...

Batteries in a laptop are like the batteries in a car... they do wear out after awhile. So buy a new battery and then you are back in business.

If you still want to keep it, try taking the battery to a battery shop like battery world. I don't know if they all do it but some will refurbish a battery.

Otherwise you could sell it as spare parts, and try to recuperate some of your costs.

If you are interested in selling it, email me (thunderbox666@yahoo.com.au)

You could always load up an old version of windows or a smaller OS like linux and turn it into an interactive photo album

Your best bet would be to sell the laptop on ebay.

If it has tv out, you could use it as a media pc.

Another option is you could donate it to charity and get a tax deduction.

Not really. This computer either needs to be repaired or replaced. Take it to the store you bought it from and compare prices before you make you next move.

just use it like normal at home. network it with the other computer and use it for music downloads and such. if it gets a problem with it then you don't have to worry about your pc having the problem.

Why not try and sell parts of it on ebay?
People will buy anything on there now-a-days.
