My sister's daughter did this too, when she was about the same age. Her doctor told her that if she does it for (what you feel is too long) just blow a little puff of air in her face. It'll force her to take a breath.

My son used to attempt this as an toddler. we would purely gently blow air on his face and it would reason him to soak up a breath and commence respiration regular. He not in any respect surpassed out notwithstanding it truly is amazingly scary to work out your infant's lips turn blue previously your eyes. It would not harm to seem into an toddler CPR/first help classification at your community well being center or community center purely so that you would sense more beneficial gentle if some thing intense were to take position even if if it isn't any longer concerning to this situation.

She's simply experimenting. Babies at that age are exploring all kinds of things about what their bodies can do. Plus, she probably got a reaction from you at least once, so she's learned that her actions can cause a reaction, and to a baby, that's super cool. And don't worry that she's going to hurt herself; it's physically impossible to suffocate yourself by holding your breath. Just enjoy watching your baby grow and learn!!

Mine does this when she gets mad about something. When it seems that it's gone on a few seconds too long and her skin starts turning colors, I gently blow on her face, which forces her to take a breath.

my 9 month old does this when he is pissed off, or crying really hard. like got hurt or something. and he even turns a a shade of blue. i blow on his face and then he breathes again. not sure why kids do this, your daughter may find it amusing because of your reaction

Probably no big deal....known as breath holding spells and is common in infants as they learn the control they have over their body.

kids learn how to control their breath and experiment with it at that age. I wouldnt' worry about it, but I would mention it to the dr just to be on the safe side.

Quite simply put: because she can. Kids love to learn and then practice new things, and this is one of them.
