Jesus wanted the poor to be taken care of.
But ....
... the liberals want to take money from the rich to pay for programs for the poor. (Sounds more like Robin Hood, than Jesus Christ)

Jesus showed love to the "sinners" by saving the woman caught in the act of adultery.
But ....
... he didn't back down on saying she was wrong. ("Go & sin no more.") I can imagine liberals screaming, "Who are you telling her what to do with her own body!"

Jesus taught us to obey our government & pay our taxes
But ....
... does that mean he would have wanted a big government & voted for a politician who advocated fixing things by higher taxes?

And I find it very ironic all this "Jesus was a Liberal" crap, considering many of these liberals don't believe in Jesus anyway.

I think the bigger question is, why would you claim he wasn't? My copy of the Bible has everything Jesus said conveniently printed in red so that his words are easy to find. The things Jesus preached were quite liberal then and now. "How you treat the least among you is how you treat me, the meek shall inherit the earth, turn the other cheek, let him who is without sin cast the first stone, do unto others as you would have done unto you" just to name a few. Jesus was compassionate, cared about the down-trodden, he was not elitist, preached equality and challenged his followers to love everyone (even the lepers which they were not very happy about). How many conservatives do you know who can claim all of that? I dare say it was my Christian upbringing that helped make me a Liberal. While Jesus may have thrown the money-changers out of the temple I'm confident Bush would have just invited them right back in the very next day.

Everybody who likes Jesus wants to believe he is what they are! When he was alive he opposed most government actions and supported free will. The Bible is filled with anti-gay quotes but did Jesus believe that? We don't know. For one thing, there are many liberals who don't believe in Jesus like we do. Most atheists are liberals! The few liberals who do claim this believe that government interaction is better than truly solving the problem. It is much easier to vote for something with a "promise" than it is to actually go out and help those yourself. You have to remember, many liberals aren't educated on socialism and free markets. In their minds, they are doing what is best for "the people". I, could not disagree more!

what he didn't render unto caesar he gave to the poor and the sick.

how would jesus not have been a liberal? i mean, I know he loved big business, tax cuts, the establishment, and sticking to outdated and archaic practices, but really...

that was sarcasm, btw. the last bit there was a little tongue in cheek, if you will

and judging others and letting them fend for themselves, he did that, too. Remember? Judge not, lest ye be a fornicator or a homosexual yourself? Am I my brother's keeper? Keeping brothers and not judging people, those are major Republican values, ha ha...

well... I think if you read the Bible... he probably comes a little closer to liberal ideas than conservative ones overall...

"turn the other cheek"... "cast the first stone if you haven't sinned"... always talking about helping the poor... teaching material goods are not what's important... talking about how the rich aren't probably going to get into heaven...

I mean... all these sound like liberals...

granted, it wasn't everything exactly... but there is no one that believes exactly all liberal or conservative ideas...

Because all his true teachings are same as what liberals believe. I am not going to type them out, but read what most of the other answers say. There are several excellent answers, so far!!!!

Read the bible and learn. He wanted people to help each other. The story of the good Samaritan is an example of what a good christian should be today.

Jesus fed and clothed the poor without exploiting them, healed the sick and forgave criminals. He actually said, "Love thy neighbor" and it didn't mean have an affair with him or her! Those are dangerous liberal ideas that no neocon would touch!

He healed the sick, fed the poor, chased the money changers out of the temple, warned against false prophets during his time (ours are the likes of Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Ted Haggart, Tammy Faye and Jim Baker, etc etc.), and he spoke of the Beatitudes, something cons should refamiliarize themselves with.

Well he was unmarried and he hung around with 12 young men and a prostitute and preached tolerance, peace and love so I think that makes him very liberal
