Thank you all...you are all most helpfull. The most recommended outfit seems to be sari and 2nd seems to be salvaar kamez.I checked sari draping technique on the net and there seems to be more than 1 way of doing it so am a little confused now. But I most probably wd go in for sari. And I also understand that make up shd be kept light and simple limiting it to bindi, kajal, liner and lipstick. Both my ears are pierced, so earring are not a prob.Thank you again all.

Shave your face and arms, even underarms and chest. Wear a long hair wig, curly or straight hair.Bindi is must if u want to look like and indian chick.Liner extending beyound the eye, like cleopatra, kajal, nosering or nose stud, long dangling earrings and lipstick.a necklace, lots of bangles, a few rings, anklets, high heels and toe rings.heena on hands and feet.A light pink semi transparent saree and matching sleeveless blouse, black bra, stuffed appropriately with black panty.A mangalsutra and sindoor in the hair parting would give an additional touch. You are short and if have the fresh faced cute look, you cd look like a real doll if u make an effort.

Well, you can wear a lot of things! Saris, salwaar kamiz and ghagra. I would recommend a SARI because its so elegant but it might not suit you! But wear it because it really defines your body! Choose either a very light colour or a very dark colour! This again, depends on your body, skin colour. But anyway, choose a coloured sari and choose matching shoes!!!!!! AND YES of course you HAVE TO wear makeup! The less is more! For example, just wear face powder and blusher! Don't put anything else! Makeup should NEVER be over done! Then put eye liner and mascara!
Hope this helps! lol

Since you are new to this i would suggest you wear a salwar kumeeze for its easy to handle then a saree for in a saree you would end up with problems like triping over the saree or some lose ends might come out would go mad, appart from this a saree can make you feel to open if you dont know to cover yourself properly. its easy with a salwar its completely covered end you can easily manage the thupatta .indians girls dont go for much make up .just apply powder (little ),bindi is a must in indian culture better if it is red or maroon for these colours matche any dress colour, wear bangles of metal for if you wear glass you would happen to break them landing with craches. The improtant one use kajle pencil ie eye liner it adds more beauty then the make up put thin line not a dark one for it should be seen but at the same time it should be beautiful. So enjoy dont be concious of your dress choose bright colours that makes you look bright.keep smiling

Hello Joy,
Hey this is a very nice question asked.I love to give its answer. So,here I go answering:
First remember, you are going to represent a girl who is an Indian first. As you know that India is having a mixture of cultures, you won't feel it hard picking any culture, but rather to represent it you need a little practice.
First pick the culture you are mostly intrested to represent and then be to it(O just joking)
As I am a Punjabi Girl,If you ask me how I would love to be dres-
-sed,I would choose little difference, that mean's dressing myself as sweet and sober punjaban. That goes with being little choosey in options.A simple patiala salwaar plus full sleeved kameez with sweet embroidery plus a panjabi jutti would be ''chack de fatte kind'',that means okay.
This completes with dress,so now having fewpanjabi language tinges would be the best attraction with your dress.
This is an example to you,you may choose any culture remembering few simple tips:
*Dont wear the outfit you are not comfortable with, because it will cause you little insufficiency.
*What is most concerned is the code of conduct plus what goes latest in fashion buzz with that tradition.Wearing long and uncomfortable ghaghra choli would be real No ! No !
*Indian-ness is reflected from language and conduct first.
*Most importantly enjoy and love what you are wearing, and also you need to show yourself that you are enjoying having this done.

If you do it with a difference you yourself will love to memorise it whenever it will come to mind.
So do it enjoing and really It should be''CHACK DE FATTE KIND''.

for clothes, you can wear a long kurta top and legging and a matching scarf as a kind of simple churidar style costume. or try a long skirt and genie like top and another matching scarf. traditional colors are bright, such as red, green, blue and yellow.
for makeup, use a lot of eyeliner, cleopatra style. and a round red bindi means your married, just so you know! also, if you can add fake hair and braid it. Gold jewelery is also a good idea, along with a ton of bangles and anklets on both feet.

saree and salwar khameez are most seen costumes in india.
saree is good but you must get a well known person in saree draping.salwar khameez is best because you can feel more comfortable.you can tre ready made sarees which are easy to do.dont forget to wear bindhi on your forehead since its very important for indian women.wear bangles which match your costume.wear necklace and ear rings if your ears are already pierced,if not you get press type studs for your ears.wear anklets and nice sandals.

indian women or any other women should be free to wear anything they like to wear. indecent or not , it is upto the person how he or she see's it. and if one see's it as negative, they must try and change their outlook because it is definitely incorrect to set rules of what a woman should wear or not. as long as they are not walking in the streets nude, then it is okay!many times this issue has also arisen when rapes take place, but yet notice that the victim is not always a girl in skimpy clothings. you must hav heard about the gangrape of a woman in the bus, she never invited it..it was the uncivilised men and again not all men are that way. we are in the 21st century and thus restrictions in clothings is victorian.

Sari, salwaar, and kameez.

Sure, you can add a bindi.

If you want, you can also do henna on the back of your hands.

A good beauty supply stores (like Sally's) carries henna kits and shows you how to do designs.
