The official instruction manual states that the Wii console may be damaged if a cd is left inside for an extended period without use.
I'm don't think Nintendo would lie to us about that.

Just like with a computer, PS2, Cube, or any device that uses a CD, Wii will not be damaged and the CD will not be mutilated. (unlike the 360) The only thing that Nintendo warns you about is not to use the Wii without the stand. They say that the carpet will reflect the heat into the Wii and cause it to, uhh, I'll just say we don't want it to end up like the 360 did.

No this is a question asked by many. I was wondering this as well but the official nintendo magazine, nintendo power has officialy declared leaving in the CD is safe.

no it doesnt...you can see all the specs about the wii and find stores in your area that have the wii in stock too at this site..
