I don't think so...I read all the answers here that think some lame band like Fall Out Boy is punk??? Cut it out!!! I'm a Damned fan...like The Damned, The Ramones, the Pistols...blah blah blah...that was punk...in a way it changed music but in reality, real punk faded away as real punks know it!!

why does everyone have to LABEL things, we label music, movies, books. if its what you like who cares what it is called. i was around when PUNK (if you will) really made it big, My Oldest Sister was all into that music, and Still is and she finds new bands that she likes every year. Flogging Molly is a punk band that didn't start out in the 70's but they are still good. and even if some bands aren't PUNK doesn't mean that there music is crap, you may not like it but that doesn't mean you are the only one to have the say in what is good and what isn't. My father always says why can't they make music anymore, its not like is was in my day, all your music is, is depressing and noise. i think that is always going to be the case, someone gets older and thinks that the music of their day was the only good music, why can't we all just flow as the music does, its always going to change and be different, if it was all the same it would be stale and non creative.
lets move on musically, time doesn't stand still why should music genre's

No they don't. I got into punk about 15 years ago(i'm 25 now). Bands like Sex Pistols, Nofx, Dead Kennedys, Ramones, etc... were the first bands that I every really liked. It was good until people started calling Green Day punk. That's the point where I think punk died. For me, that's actually the point where music died. But I'm younger, you older punks might see it otherwise.
Now I must go on my music of today rant...
Music today sux. It's all meaningless crap. Rap is just ridiculous as a genre. Pop music is just stupid. American Idol is one of the worst things this country has ever seen. I hate it, and it is what is wrong with this country (Not just musically).
I don't listen to the radio, all I do is listen to my old cd's. Although, I do like emo to a point, but there is the bad MTV emo, and then then there is the good emo. I do like it because of the serious and meaningful songwriting behind it. Basically, if it is played on the radio, it is bad. But I digress...
Oh.. And what idiot thinks Avril Lavgine(sp?) is punk?

There was different kinds of punk. The 60's started punk, but it was fairly light compared to some of the 70's stuff. Even some of the 70's stuff was fluffy. As far as I know most called the new bands emo or garage and not punk (unless they really are a punk band). Only a promoter would call Green Day (the leader of the "new" sound) a punk band. As far as I'm concerned, punk is now called death metal, because death metal is loud and never fluffy.

The Damned are the true punks!!! I've heard the Sex Pistols, the Clash and the Ramones but the Damned are what punk is all about! They are still around but they never sold out...they still have the punk attitude that newer bands will never have!!

hell no they don't..and it's sad..really if you look at it, it should be about time for punk to have another come back....its been a little over 10 years since the last one..it wont be anything like the original movement but the overall "spirit" will still be the same(hopefully)

Who uses the phrase "teeny-boppers" anymore? Yeesh. And yes, thank you, but the Sex Pistols and progeny are nothing to be proud of. Besides, everything is recycled back into mainstream eventually anyway, what's the difference? You don't see me complaining because people consider all this alternative crap to be real rock.
