4. Yorktown, U.S.A. aircraft carrier, launched 1936, commissioned 1937.

On 8 May 1942, at the Battle of the Coral Sea, the carrier "Lexington" was sunk, and a big bomb exploded below decks on "Yorktown" killing 66 crew. She limped into Pearl Harbor on 27 May needing an estimated three months' repair work. But working around the clock, the yard workers performed nothing short of a miracle. She was drydocked, damaged metal cut away, and new parts and structures fabricated and installed. In less than 72 hours, she was declared battle ready, and put to sea with the carrier "Enterprise".

At the Battle of Midway on 4 June, planes from Enterprise and Yorktown sent the four biggest Japanese carriers to the bottom, but Yorktown was badly battered and finally sank on 7 June. This massive turnaround in naval resources determined the final outcome of the war in the Pacific.

HMS Repulse & HMS Prince of Wales Royal Navy Battlecruiser and Battleship - sunk by Japaneese warplanes, of the Far Eastern Coast. These two battleships were sent to deter Japan from invading any of the British Far East Colonies by Churchill. Had no escort, Aircraft carrier and very poor AA batteries and the Japaneese couldn't believe their luck and they were both sunk very quickly.
HMS Hood Royal Navy Battleship- Called the 'Glorious Hood' and was the Royal Navy Flagship and was dispatched with the newly built Prince of Wales to attack the Bismark and Prince Eugen. Had a short pitched battle with the German ships., but her thin secondary armour left her vulnerable to plunging fire, was hit by the Bismark, pireced the AA store and exploded breaking her back and sunk leaving only 3 survivors. Was a great shock to the Royal Navy as the Hood was considered to be the most powerful warship at the time.
HMS Ark Royal - Royal Navy Aircraft Carrier - Her airplanes crippled the Bismark by jamming one of her rudders with their last torpedo and allowed the Royal Navy to destroy her. According to the German propaganda was always being sunk, was lost in 1941 in the Med, although it was a botched repair job and she shouldn't have been lost.
Bismark - German Battleship - Caused panic in the Admiralty when she slipped out and sunk the Hood and damaged the Prince of Wales in the Battle of the Denmark Straits. However, during the battle one of Hood's shells pierced and penetrated the ships fuel tank but didn't explode, however this left her with a fuel leak and she had to divert to Brest in France for repairs Was spotted and lost several times but was finally located and damaged by aircraft by Ark Royal and sunk by a Royal Naval taskforce. According to German propaganda was scuttled by the crew whilst singing 'Duetchsland Uber Alles' but recent stiudies of the wreck show that it was sunk by a salvo of torpedos fired by HMS Shropshire. Considered one of the finest Battleships of WW2
Graf Spee - German pocket Battleship - Was designed as a commerce raider and brought to battle by the three Royal Navy Cruisers HMS Ajax, Achilles and Exeter at the mouth of the River Plate. After fighting to a standstill the Graf Spee fled to Montevideo, and the British convinced the Germans a large taskforce was being brought together to face her when she left. After offloading the crew the German Captain, Lansdorff scuttled her in the entrance of the River Plate. This was the first naval engagement of World War II
