Is it possible that a hard drive problem could make the cd drive not work at all? I'm not talking about wires, or connections either. I mean if the hard drive is bad, or doesnt work at all, shouldnt the cd player still at least come on??

My CD player quit working right when I started getting the Boot Disk Failure message. Now, that would be enough right there to assume its the hard disk, but I had just finished working on the cd drive itself, so im assuming it could be that too...

Yes but if you are trying to boot from CD with a live linux distro for example, that will still need some hard drive space to write some files to it needed for functioning.
What are you trying to do?
