It depends on the initial microbial load of milk and the storage temperature. In case of milk formula, the utensils used for preparation, microbial quality of water and hygienic measures followed during the preparation of formula all counts in the final microbial load of the formula. Another important thing is the prevailing atmospheric temperature. If the above said conditions are satisfied and the atmospheric temperature is around 25 degree Celsius, then the formula Will definitely keep good for more than 4 hours. If you wanna store it for longer period, refrigerate it and in any case do not use it after 12 hours, otherwise psychrotrophs will cause problems.

As a general rule, it is safe to refrigerate prepared formula in a sealed container for up to 24 hours. Some prepared formulas can be refrigerated for even longer than 24 hours if stated on the product label. Always check the specific product label to determine storage conditions and time. Do not exceed the recommended storage times.
Also, use a bottle within one hour of it coming in contact with baby's mouth to prevent bacteria from growing.
To be safe, mix formula right before it is to be used or refrigerate.

You should really throw out any unused formula after the infant has had their fill, and just make a new bottle when he/she is hungry. There's plenty of debate concerning the length of time that refrigerated milk/formula will stay fresh. When my son was in day care I pre-mixed his bottles the night before. At least 8 hours of time had elapsed between when I made the bottles and when my son drank them. To my knowledge he never became ill because of it.
If it smells spoiled, then it probably is! Use common sense and you should be just fine. If you think it's gone sour, then throw it out.

Its only a few hours from the time you make the bottle, so you were right! The can of formula will tell you 1 hour but you can typically wait two...if you are un-certain then just smell it, bad formula has a horrible smell! In any case I would never use after made for over two hours.

If you make up a lot at once, and refridgerate it right away, it is good for 4 hours. But do not feed your baby what is leftover from a bottle b/c of the risk of bacteria.

Breast milk is good for 8yrs (as long as its kept in a room temperature and not put back in the refrigerator. As far as formula is concerned you should throw out the remaining. Never put back leftover breast/formula.

It's eight hours but you can't put it back in the fridge. If you only have it out for four you can re - refridgerate but after that it's consider bad. A bottle of formula is only good for three days in a fridge.
