A 17 (legal high school dropout) is staying at her mothers friend house, can anybody get in trouble besides the mother?

the daughter explains that the mother is unstable and cannot find a home and therefore has not gone to school.

the mother explains also that she knew her daughter was staying at her mothers friends house and not attending school

the 17yr old is stopped by the cops one night and they confront the mother about the daughter who was posessing stolen property and thats when they find out she wasnt with her mother.

the mother lives in nevada and was stopped in california

the mothers friend was also not ok with taking care of her friends daughter and encouraged the mom to take her back and find their own place but the mother didnt take any responsibility over her own daughter..the mothers friend only let the teen stay bcause her mother was unstable and didnt have a place for her daughter

Okay, this isn't too complex in theory, but in reality it could get very messy.

It is legal for the Girl to drop out of school. the only way that might factor in is with driving.

It is legal for her to stay at another house with parental consent. However, if the other mom didn't want to take care of her, that's where things get messy. If she was willing enough to house her, that could be interpreted as consent on her part. However, she could argue that she did not consent but was unwilling to put her out on the street. (strong argument)

then there's the question of custody. As a minor, her mother still technically had custody. That could lead o punishments for her. However, if the other women was taking care of her, it could be argued that the other lady had de facto custody.

In all, it gets to be a real mess.

So the daughter will be charged with theft. Will the mother get in trouble, most likely not. She can say that her daughter is uncontrollable.

What might happen next? The state can find that the daughter is need of protective services and bring an action to get the daughter into foster care or a group home.

Alot of 17 365 days olds stay faraway from their dad and mom without emancipation. easily no human being receives in any problem for this -the daughter replaced into staying with adults and mom can pass the position she desires and doesnt ought to take her daughter with her. Sorry i reread the question and particular she will be in a position to get in problem for the possession of stolen resources yet no longer for no longer residing at homestead.

The 17 year old should get a job and her own apartment. You can do that at 17 in many states. She should also not be involved in criminal activity. Sadly, it sounds like she will turn out like her mother. This is a perfect example of why people should grow up and take care of their damn kids!!!

It's a free country. If 17 is the legal age where you are, I don't see how charges can be brought upon a person who gave lodgings to someone who required lodgings.
