can you teach yourself to use it (there are no pmc classes in my area), is it safe to use, and is what you can dry in it too limited because it's not a real kiln?

Hi:

You can sort of dry it maybe a little faster in a slow regular oven at around 200f or so degrees for a while. I got a hot pot to do it too, and I probably wouldn't use it to dry the pmc, but i would use it to fire it with the fuel for made for it. Most likely, to fire it you can also just use a fire brick and a butane torch too.

Pmc Supply has video demonstrations on their website too, and maybe that will help you. It also has a great gallery of pmc artists to maybe give you some good ideas if you have problems deciding what to make. Delphi Glass also sells this and has good supplies, along with fused and lampworking glass supplies. Hope this helps and leads you in a good direction!

The PMC "Hot Pot" is a mini-kiln, but not sure what else you can fire in it (you asked about "drying" it, but I assume you mean actually firing it).

You could find out though by asking in some of the metal clay groups that are online, or maybe from some of the other links I have on this page at my website:
http://glassattic.com/polymer/Characteristics.htm
(... click on the subcategory called *Metal Clays* in the list at the top of the page ... you may want to read all the info I have in that section, but the Online Groups are listed near the first part of that sub-category)
