I am so sick of people who are obsessed with Abercrombie, Hollister, and American Eagle, amd so are the people at my high school! Last time I checked, REAL style wasn't having some store's label written across yor chest! I admit, in 7th grade I wore AE & A&F, but then I was 'enlightened' by the fact that all it did was make me look like everyone else, and I found my own style! I'm pretty much anti-label, but that doesn't mean I don't ever buy clothes from those stores. (sure, AE has some nice basic shirts and sweaters) It just means that I don't define status or style by what is written on your shirt. Oh, and another thing. There are some girls who wouldn't give a second glance to a low-quiality T shirt that said, oh, 'POO', but if that same shirt said 'ABERCROMBIE' or 'AMERICAN EAGLE', they would be all over it! What I'm trying to get across here is that all the teen girls out there should try to find there own sense of style instead of letting these labels define it for them.

i think obsession with certain brands is fine as long as the obsession wells from the quality and cut of the clothes and not the popularity of the name. For example, I dont really shop at abercrombie because
a) i find the music loud and obnoxious
b) it sells the same clothes over and over again so everyone has the same things
c) for the quality of the clothes marketed, its rather overpriced
d) the brand name is splayed across the front of many of the clothes and i think thats crass

its the same reason i dont buy louis vuitton or anything with the burberry check - it seems like advertising the brands after you pay so much money for it, so it seems like the brand is taking advantage of your patronage.

but if you like a brand because of the quality of the clothes and therefore obsess with the brand because the clothes just look amazing on you, its perfectly fine.

It's all about the quality, and what you consider brand name. Mall stores (like Hollister) do NOT fall into that category. They're rather cheap, fall apart, and look tacky. You could spend eighty dollars on a new, cheaper winter coat every year or put up 1,200 dollars on a well-made Burberry trench that will last you years. So it's partially a short-term long-term thing =]

Actually I really like high quality brand name goods because of their styles. I am not for Abercrombie at all, but I do tend to purchase certain brands because I know that I can trust it to be stylish and last me for more than several washings. Real brands do not put their names in bold letters on their shirts because they know that people can recognize their stylishness, quality, and value even without blatantly stating their name in the front. Fashion is as legitimate a form of art as anything else, and like paintings it should be original and reflect the personality of the owner. It shouldn't be something that everyone has the same of. (I would want to crawl into a hole and die if everyone at my school has a mass produced print of Mona Lisa hanging in their home)

of course i dont like branded clothes, i prefer wearing my style
its just that not all people could be as creative and sure of what they look like
i mean its hard to blame people who get exposed to media everyday
but yes its annoying, i mean for me, i dont like to wear guess or prada, lacoste, first because its too expensive , when i can find better designs and clothes at a cheaper price, i dont understand why many people think that designer dress is beautiful, well for some but many just really look plain
i read someone who quoted that fashion is so ugly that it has to change every now and then
you see people who love branded items feel that if they wear them they are something or that they are beautiful
its good that you have your originality
and your own sense of style

and next time just dont mind those people, enjoy what you wear
for me its good that there are many unoriginal beings so i can remain original and with lots of style

i could not agree with you more. i have always walked to the beat of my own fashion drum. I could care less what label I am wearing, so long as I look fabulous in it. I could wear a cheap 5 t-shirt from old navy and great slacks from nordstroms. It does not matter. Labels mean nothing to me. Having great fashion sense has nothing to do with the label.

I recalll once upon a time when Sharon Stone wore a glamourous ralph lauren ballgown skirt and a gap t-shirt to the academy awards. That is taking risks. she looked totally stunning.

Fashion is what you make of it and how you stand apart from the crowd.

Be yourself. it is who you do best. find your own image.

The people who do this, do so out of fear of being "uncool" or an "outie" in society if they don't "fit in".

I don't care if I don't fit in. I don't buy shoes every day of the week to match every color under the rainbow, including some that haven't been invented yet.

I have my own style, and I admire women like you who actually rage against conformity and be the individual and unique person that you are.

It is more of a turn on to me, when I see a woman who is independent, than one who is conformist.

Keep it up!

I'm 16 and I hate name brands. I'll wear them if its really cute, but I hate looking like everyone else. I found my own style, and I feel much better about myself now.
