I am 30 weeks pregnant and seem to have picked up some kind of stomach bug. I have been vomitting and have stomach pains. I am worried this will harm by baby. Does anyone have any knowledge or information about this?

And before you say it, I can't talk to my doctor just now because it's 4am, and I've tried phoning NHS direct but they are busy and aren't going to call me back for 4 hours!

Thanks so much everyone who has answered. I am glad to hear that there is no real danger for my baby. I can cope with having a stomach bug, I just wanted to make sure my baby would be ok.

I was 9 months pregnant and came down with Norwalk virus (that nasty stomach bug a few years back that cause massive vomitting and diarrhea). I called my doc and she said that if I get dehydrated to go in right away because my body would start re-absorbing the amniotic fluid in order to get water. If you have been vomitting for more than 12 hours then see the doctor, otherwise you should be okay to wait till morning.

Good luck, and I feel for you. Been there, not fun.

try to eat crackers if you can and have some ginger ale just to calm your stomach down a bit. It wont harm your baby but if you do get dehydrated then you need to go to the hospital but as long as you can keep some fluids down you should be ok. If you are having a lot of problems it could also be something you have ate if this is the case then you should be seen right away. If NHS is your hospital keep calling if your calling the er and getting nowhere call the ob floor they can help you . If NHS is a birthing center call your local hospital.

Oh honey I have been there!! I got a miserable stomach flu when I was about 25 weeks pregnant . The pain was so bad I thought I was going into labour. Not only was I throwing up I also had horrible diarrhea ( sorry to be graphic.) Fortunately I did have my OBGYN paged at 2am and he said there was nothing really that could be done. I know that is not any comfort to you when you are in distress but unless you get dehydrated then just let it pass. Thats what they told me.

I think it's a combo of your morning sickness and the thought of the bug in your head. I wouldn't force yourself to be sick. Because you may not catch it. Just make sure to wash your hands well/often,and wipe everything down that is frequently touched. _edit_ You know, when I think about it. His symptoms don't sound like any stomach bug I've ever heard of. I mean, even the short viruses take at least 48 hours to work their way out of the body. Was wondering if maybe him and his co-workers ate the same thing, and it had gone bad,and just made their stomach upset?

If you can try and keep your fluids up. I had the same at 25 weeks for a week and was prescribed Dyrolite. Sip warm water as less of a shock to your stomach then cold and less likely to make you sick. try to eat if you can toast, ginger biscuits etc.
It shouldn't hurt you baby at all as long as you keep fluids up. If you get dehydrated you need to see a doc.
After I got sick I went into labour - they thought that the infection my have irritated my uterus. So if you are at all worried go to the maternity hospital and get checked out!

That happened to me a week ago and I couldn´t keep anything down. I went to the doctor and he told me to drink a lot of black tee, but leave the tea bag in the water for 20 minutes before drinking it. He also gave me Vomex A, not very nice but it helped me a little bit.

all i can say is that i am pregnant also and had a stomach virus a few weeks ago. my doctor told me that he couldn't put me on any atibiotics because of my pregnancy. he said that the only thing that i could take was a child's portion of regular robitussin and tylenol. it may be the same for you so just try taking tylenol, getting plenty of rest and call your doctor's office in the morning. hope i helped.

Just make sure you take in plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. When the doctor calls you back, he may prescribe something for the nasea. It is okay to take Immodium for diarrhea (in small doses.) Hope you feel better soon!

You will be fine, just do let yourself get dehydrated. Drink gatorade for the electrolytes. The baby will be fine. The worst thing that can happen is that you will need to get an IV, but you will not get that sick overnight. Hang in there.
