are you sure it is the original engine ? have you run the stamping suffix code off the block to make sure it is not a later engine
in 70-74 leaded gas was being phased out and engine started recieving hardened valve seats at the factory
someoen may have already had this done sometime in the past however
you can buy lead substitute at auto parts stores
i have had a few vehicles that i have had to use it in
the first one was a 69 f-100 pickup with the 240ci six engine
i had to swap the cylinder head with a good used junkyard one because the valve seats wore down so much the valves were sunken into the cylinder head because the previous owners were not using lead subsitute
it will ruin seats/head casting over time
i have also had valve seats replaced with hardened ones at the machine shop for other vehicles in the past
good luck

Leaded gasoline is no longer available in the States . Ive run it since the change with little problems other than extra valve and valve seat wear.
The valves and seats can be replaced at a machine shop.

Chances are, the truck has been running fine on unleaded. The early (pre-emissions) engines required lead to protect the valves and seats. Since it is nearly impossible to find leaded gas, the vehicle has probably been on a diet of leaded anyway.
If you're really worried about it, you could swap in a late model engine.

The inline 6 and the v8's share the same trans bolt pattern. So you can bolt up anything from a 265 small block to a 502 big block to your trans. Be warned though, the 6cyl trans aint as strong as the v8 units and will fail when you put more than about 300-350 HP to them

well u should but try to find sum leaded gas !!!
reason being lead waz a lubricant for the engine back then
mostly for the heads valves etc...use a quality motor oil and u should experence no problems. if in the future u experence a burnt valve have the valves and valve seats upgraded to run on unleaded fuel.

You cannot get the leaded gas . The unleaded gas is hard on the valve seats and they can be replaced during an overhaul.(not an easy process)with harened seats and valves.
