I am a 22 yr old undergrad,I am a pretty calm and quiet person when I am sober, nothing seems to bother me and I live a pretty toned down existence, no girls, no socializing, just work and school. All my emotions are in my head, kinda bland actually, but after I start drinking I become loud and most people respond to me better because I become a funny, loud smartass/ happy go lucky, I don't like to get drunk because I get extremely depressed the next morning after I drink, but not drinking affects my life. I find it hard to talk to women sober, because everything is in my head, my parents don't understand my problem, and they would condemn the drinking issue, but there is more to the problem I think, so my dilemma is should I just forget about my problem, or try to live my life as sober as possible or just stop worrying about it?

22 years of age? Or 22 years old? Which do You think best describes You?

The many faces of the drunk include:
The Melancholic
The Abusive
The Self Destructive
The Violent
The Arrogant
The Self Opinionated
The Subdued
The Philosophical
The Jovial
The Avuncular
The Wistful
The Brooding
The Romantic
The Disdainful
And which combination of the above best characterizes You?
Anyone can be a civilized human being when They are sober. Only a truly decent person can maintain Their Integrity, Honor, and Altruism whilst falling (with much dignity) from a bar stool. Now get to the bar and start watching how the 'real' drunks behave.

Yea, I understand I am a shy and timid person as well but I actually suprise myself when I am drunk...I think I just may be the wildest person when I am drunk it is insane the question is what don't I do when I am drunk I am a completly different person. I think when people get drunk it brings out the real them, and shows how they really feel towards situations and how thier personality is...I love the feeling of being drunk it's like I have no worries in the world life is WONDERFUL, until the next morning lol. But anyways back to you, for your best interest try to live life as sober as you can but occasionally drink and have fun and meet girls. That will help easy the anxiety a little bit, but I am not trying to turn you into an alcholic. Remember it's not what your parents want your an adult now, make your own choices. If you want to go to a therapist and there might be a root to your problem that is causing this.
Good Luck!

I know the feeling. I was always the life of the party when I was drinking. Then, it almost ruined my life so I quit drinking and started working on my self esteem and confidence. You are a normal 22 yr old, I think, feeling the way you do. Don't wreck your life with alcohol but if you are going to drink do it in moderation instead of getting drunk. You are at an important place in your life. Finish your education because you will never regret that! If you can be a fun drunk person....you can learn to be a fun sober person. It's all you, so you have it in you. Good luck!

It seems like you have some sort of psychological issue. It sounds like it might be something like a Social Anxiety disorder. I can relate to how you feel, because I'm sort of the same way. I'm alot more outgoing when I'm drunk, but horribly shy when I'm sober. It sux, I know. You should try seeking out help from a psychologist and/or psychiatrist.
The last thing you want to do is turn to alcohol. Drinking every once and a while is one thing, but drinking to escape reality or to drown out your worries/anxieties is a very bad thing and can lead to serious problems. You really should seek help from a trained professional if this is even remotely the case. Alcoholism can start slowly without a person noticing.

If you are really depressed and drinking alot, then finding a good psychologist and psychiatrist might really help improve your quality of life.

My son has a condition called schizo-affective disorder and some of what you describe remind me of his condition. He is a loner basically he's like you no girls, no socializing, no friends. He gets depressed sometimes severely. When he drinks the affect is different he does get more talkative however unless you are drinking too it is no fun at all to listen to him. Simply he babbles, ranting on and on and not making any sense at all. Your parents may see your drinking more clearly than you do. If you do have condition that is essentially a mood disorder it isn't going to help you to drink. It really can make it worse because it is so easy for our judgment to become impaired and you could find yourself in trouble. Why not go talk to someone, when you over 18 you can do this without involving your parents until you are ready to talk to them. Best wishes to you.

You need help. You definitely have a drinking problem. The fact that you must drink in order to interact with other people means something is wrong. Seek professional help now before this ruins your life

I'm pretty sure that if the only time you feel happy is when you're drunk, you'll end up drunk all the time. Long-term, that's not a good idea.

I don't think there's some magic bullet for this, but you should think about some alternatives.

Well, I don't think having a good time and getting buzzed every once in a while is a bad thing. If it helps you meet people, and talk to girls, then why not? Just don't become an alcoholic and you're fine.

The reason why you're more outgoing when you're drunk is probably because you're more relaxed then when you're sober. You need to learn how to relax and go with the flow, maybe you're shy and drinking loosens you up.

just drink gatorade and pretend it's alcohol. Sometimes in social settings just holding a drink makes you feel more confident.
