Yes, the "e" stands for explorer. You should also understand that "Internet icon" is probably not the best term to use. The icon represents "Internet Explorer", not the "Internet". If you used an alternate browser (i.e. FireFox, Opera, Safari, Netscape, etc...), you would still connect to the "Internet". The icon is really just a shortcut to the Internet Explorer application.

"e" is not the internet. It's the icon for Microsoft Internet Explorer, an application that lets you use the Hyptertext Transfer Protocol to view webpages.
That is HARDLY the entire internet.
