Yup! In Oregon, it is six months but you can apply to have the waiting period waived. So depending on your situation your divorce could go through much quicker. Mine took about a week. Good Luck!

Some states but not New Mexico. You can kick him out today and file tomorrow, LOL! The only waiting period, if you want to call it that, is he would have 30 days in which to respond to the divorce petition. However, it can be waived. People can be divorced in a matter of days here... as long as they lived in the state for at least 6 months before filing their case.

This may be very true and i feel this is a good thing in a way. It gives the couples time to think about things before going to that final step. I also feel that marriage counseling should be ordered during the seperation too unless it is abandonment or abuse of a spouse or child where someone is in life threatening danger and alsoin cases of repeated cheating that does not stop.

Yep. For example, Ohio requires 1 year separation for you to prove that you're serious about divorcing. That's why a lot of couples there opt for annulments or dissolutions instead. They're quicker and cheaper in the long run.

So many of them are doing that now. Maryland, as mentioned, has been a year for 20 to 25 years. We had to wait in Ohio the year because there were children involved so we couldn't have the quicker process. I think they are making everyone think about it, try to get some of the details figured out, and be ready to move forward when they get to court.

Yes. I found out the hard way that my state (Maryland) does indeed require a one year separation before a legal divorce.

One year seems like a long time but most states do indeed have a minimum separation period. My state= 90 days.
