Yes, my son was sent home from the hospital on liquid Zantac. It is a very common drug to give babies with acid reflux. I spent a lot of time in the NICU with my son, and 95% of the babies in there were on it. Just follow the directions and it'll be fine!

Zantac is great for babies with reflux...totally safe and a life saver for many parents.
From the product insert...Pediatric Use: The safety and effectiveness of ZANTAC have been established in the age-group of 1 month to 16 years for the treatment of duodenal and gastric ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive esophagitis, and the maintenance of healed duodenal and gastric ulcer. Use of ZANTAC in this age-group is supported by adequate and well-controlled studies in adults, as well as additional pharmacokinetic data in pediatric patients and an analysis of the published literature (see CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY: Pediatrics and DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Pediatric Use). Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients for the treatment of pathological hypersecretory conditions or the maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis have not been established. Safety and effectiveness in neonates (less than 1 month of age) have not been established (see

No, babies should not be given medicines such as Zantac. If the infant is sick, it should be seen by a medical professional. If someone is giving their baby Zantac it could have a negative effect on their baby's health.

No zantac can really hurt the baby, if you ever question a medicine that you want to give the baby most medicines have website and they will specify who can and can't take it. Also just to be safe you should talk too your childs dr before giving them any kind of medicine.
especially with some common medicines has caused severe allergic reactions and other things to children.

My doc waited until my son was like 6 mos. to give him that. Check with the pharmacist too. They might have an opinion about it.

My son was on ranitidine for reflux at about 8 weeks. MY GP prescribed it..then she sent us to a Pediatrician who agreed with the GP. Its to keep the acid down in their tummies so their esophagus isn't damaged. Your Dr would know. Teh reflux can be pretty bad. I was told that my son would grow out of it and he did...the sphincter at the top of the stomah doesn't close properly till they are older. If its any concolation...they told me that my son would grow out of it and he did.
