When I was in labor (water hadn't broke) I felt like I had to pee all the time. But, I really didn't have to - it was just a sensation that drove me insane!! I think part of it was my son moving down the birth canal and all that pressure.
With a lot of women their water never even breaks. Mine didn't break until I was ready to push and the doc had to break it.
I never felt myself dialating. That would be awesome though. You'd know exactly what's going on and when you need to start for the hospital :)) I did feel contractions and felt like I didn't want to leave my home. That coupled with flu symtpoms really freaked me out and I figured I better leave otherwise I may not want to leave my living room. lol.
PS: The whole time I was in labor I was washing dishes! I've been told by other mom's they were cleaning house or something similar. hehehe Mother nature sure has a sense of humor! Either that...or she's really a man...;P

I'm sure it's different for every woman, but when my water broke I had no idea. I was on my way out the door and just walking normally, then all of a sudden my water broke. I had no indications at all that it was about to happen - no pressure, no tingle, just suddenly a big gush of water came out. Same for dilating in the beginning, before labour. No indications I was a little dilated, didn't feel a thing. But when labour started, I definitely felt that.

I have had 2 kids and I never had the classic water break that you see on tv. By the time my water broke the baby was well descended and essentially plugged the hole. :) Labor usually starts out as a pressure either in the lower back or lower abdomen. don't worry, you'll know when it's time. :) As for if you can feel if you're dilating I would say no.

I did not have my water break with my first 2 but my third,I got up to use the restroom @ 4am and felt a pop followed by a gush ( which I knew was not pee).
As for the dialation , I do not recall feeling dialation with the first one, the second was induced and the third was csection.

I can not feel dialation, and never knew or had a sign that my water would break. I wish there was a 4 hour warning so I could get stuff together this time, lol

I don't think you can tell if you are dilating, but I never got past 2cm so I'm not 100%; however, I was dilated at 1-2cm for about 4 weeks. Now the day before my water broke, I felt like my underwear kept getting just a little wet (I know that sounds nasty), and I wasn't leaking urine on myself or discharge. But I went to the doctor and he did this stick test to see if it was amniotic fluid and the stick didn't turn blue, so according to them it wasn't, but it continued through the night and I woke up twice that night and went to the bathroom and had to changed underwear. At about 5AM I got up and had a little gush of fluid go down my leg and onto the floor so I woke my husband up and called my mother. When I got to the hospital the nurse checked me and the stick wasn't really blue, but wasn't really white either, and she kept trying to convince me that I had leaked urine on myself even though I was sure that wasn't the case. And then when the doctor came in and checked me, he was going to do some other test, but immediately saw that my sac had busted and in fact, my water had broke. Sorry for the long story, but maybe it will help a little.

I have three children....as far as your water breaking, only one of my pregnancies ended this way, the others the doc broke for me when I had a good steady pattern of contractions. I was asleep when my water broke and I thought I had wet the bed when I first woke up, it took me by suprise, not to mention the fact that I was five weeks early. Dilation....I have never been able to distinguish physical feelings with dilation, so I am not sure on that one....good luck to you.

Ususally, there are no signs before your water breaks. Just a gush of fluid. No, you cannot tell when you are dilating. The further you dilate, the more contractions you have, usually. If your water breaks, you need to contact your physician cause you could be dilated enough to be admitted to Labor and Delivery or it could still be a long wait. I wish you the best and Congrats!!!

No, you won't feel yourself dialating. And your water will just break, there won't be any signs. It may not even break on its own, the doctor will probably have to do it.
