When I was in high school, I was in a program called medical careers. A couple of years after that I became a certified nursing assistant and home health aid. I have been in the same career since and I am 31. I now want to go back to school for my RN. I have a 2 year degree in diet tech, but I dont feel the same about it like nursing. Well I like it but Iove nursing more. so I can apply it later with my RN. I will have it a little easier because all my grad requirements are complete, I just need some science prerequisits for the RN. I just feel I should have done this in the first place. My hubby and child and I could have been in a nice home with no financial problems. We live in a 4 bedroom mobile home farely new, but I dont feel like I am home. I cant wait to get started and work hard to reach this goal. It will take me 4-5 years now. my daughter will be 7. How not to feel guilty?

I mean nursing has been my entire adult career. besides the first few like cashier and holiday work. I feel like I have been blind to see what i really wanted to do. Now as an adult and family and responsability, I now see this big picture.

Well, life is never perfect, is it? Have you heard the saying, "Better late, than never?" We get hung up on numbers, like our age, which basically means nothing! Just do what you really want to do, no matter if you're 90 when you get there! Many people change careers at 50 and start all over again! So we can't really make up time by going backwards and kicking ourselves, that we should have, could have. For some reason, not apparent to you at that time, you did not choose to focus on the career you now want. It is, what it is, so don't waste even more time and energy because you're just going backwards. That won't help you now. Concentrate everything you've got on your NOW and what you want to do now! Life is often not a straight line right to target, for whatever reasons, so just face it that those thoughts are IDEALIZATIONS of life. The amount of time you're going to have to spend to get there now is not that long, considering the length of a lifetime. But get on with it or you'll turn it into 10 years rather than 5 years by wasting precious time living in the past! It's done, it's gone, move on!!! Good luck!

How could you ever feel guilty about being a productive member of society, a devoted wife and good mother. It's all a matter of perspective and having an attitude of gratitude. Count each and every blessing and there are many and be glad that this is "your time" not previously but right now is your time to reach your goal, success is guaranteed. This is perfect!!
Good Luck

Oh, stop. I was older than that when I got my college nursing degree. Life begins today. Pooh on yesterday. Dream of the future, but be VERY happy with what you have today. Count your blessings twice a day. And, good luck with your nursing education and career. More power to you.

Some things aren't meant to be. It always takes time to know what you want out of life and the thing to remember is you do have your health, you are safe and you are happy. We always need a goal in life and some just take a little while to get there.
Hold fast to your dream and good luck.

I don't think you should feel guilty. You are just taking longer than you wanted, but, if you have the time now, go for it. Prove to your self you can do it. The age of your child shouldn't matter and she will still be young when you grad. Good luck.

There is no time like the present. I remember when my grandmother graduated from high school. I also attended my grandmothers college graduation - she got a triple associates.

If your daughter will be 7 when you graduate, imagine the gift you will give her. She will see you achieve a goal you set, and what it means to be true to yourself.

GO FOR IT!
