Could be a few reasons.
Could be he was never nice, and just pretended to be.
It could be that he was nice, but you never gave him what he wanted in return (and perhaps he never was clear enough about that was). So now he's resentful and stopped trying.
It could be some other reason that means he no longer cares.

You don't say when this started but I'm guess it is after the initial relationship period and when he figured he had you.
Mine was after we were married. Then he became possessive, jealous, selfish, rude, demeaning towards women, and oh could I go on. At first I thought it was just little insecurities, the just married adjustments, etc. It never got better. I'm divorced now with two kids. He still doesn't get it and my 15 yr old son asks why Dad is so selfish. Oh well, I do my best.
