Diet as in changes in what you eat I would say it doesn't hurt for more fruits and veggies, but know that it is recommended to eat 500 more calories than a womans usual/normal daily intake. I would recommend a variety such as fish (just try to avoid swordfish and higher mercury containing fish), Load up on fruits and veggies and if possible go with darker leafy greens for salads. Do not make her go on a weight loss diet. And if it is her try to help her make healthy decisions. If she smokes have her try to cut down by encouraging her and if you smoke inside I would go outside. Walking is good too. Try to make sure she gets calcium containing items. If she can not drink milk she can also get her calcium from enriched fruit juices with added calcium or a calcium supplement. Now is not the time to reduce the amount she eats because she does need the extra calories for two. As I mentioned above it is only about 500 calories more than your regular intake. Also make sure she is taking her prenatals. If she gets morning sickness it would be better to stay away from spicy or greasy foods. There are alot of books out there for pregnant women on what to eat when they are expecting. I know you wonder why I mention all these things, but these are some very very good diet changes. Also, the dark leafy greens can help aide in constipation along with drinking alot of water and bananas can help her if she has diarrhea. Just make sure she does not eat a whole bunch of bananas as this can constipate her as well. It is good about being concerned about her pregnancy and you will also learn as you go. But this helps not only in her pregnancy, but it may even help her make a few lifestyle changes after pregnancy. Congratulations and good luck. I hope this helped you a little.

If you're not already taking a daily prenatal vitamin, I suggest you talk to your doctor or midwife about getting started. Prenatal vitamins, taken regularly as directed, will help ensure that you'll get the extra nutrients you need that you may not be able to get from food alone, and particularly from the limited variety of fruits and vegetables that you're eating. But you should always try to get your nutrients from food first and not depend on a supplement to substitute for poor eating habits.
Following a balanced diet during pregnancy can be difficult, but eating plenty of fruits and vegetables is important for a healthy pregnancy. The following suggestions should help you meet your nutritional needs and ease your concerns. The few fruits and vegetables you enjoy can give you a good start.
Experts recommend you eat five servings of fruits and vegetables each day (preferably three servings of yellow fruit and vegetables and green leafy vegetables and two servings of "other fruits and vegetables") to get the nutrients you and your developing baby need.
The apple, banana, and potatoes would fall under the "other" fruits and vegetables category noted above, so you really need to work just on the leafy greens and yellow fruits and vegetables category. Some choices from this group that might be more palatable to you include squash, sweet potatoes or yams, mangoes, dried apricots, pumpkin, and papayas.
You may also want to consider drinking your fruits and vegetables. One eight-ounce glass of V-8 juice will provide you with almost 35 percent of your daily vitamin A requirement, about 80 percent of your daily vitamin C requirement, and 3 percent of your daily iron needs. One eight-ounce cup of pure fruit juice a day generally provides all of the vitamin C that you need (but be careful — many fruit juices have lots of calories).
Below is a recipe that will not only help you get adequate supplies of vitamin C but will also provide you with the calcium you need. Remember, though, that if you do decide to drink your fruits and vegetables, you'll be getting a lot less fiber than with the fresh alternative. So, you'll need to make sure you consume other fiber-rich foods such as whole grains (whole wheat breads and pasta, brown rice), high-fiber cereals, and potato skins (after cleaning the potato, of course). You should aim for 20 to 30 grams of fiber each day.
If you follow these tips, I think you'll be okay. Do the best you can, and who knows — maybe pregnancy will alter your taste buds so that you actually enjoy eating fruits and vegetables!

Im not a doctor but I dont think you should diet or do any drastic change in your eating habits. If you start craving more food then lean towards healthier things like fruits... dont stuff yourself with sweets and blame it on the baby.

Ask your doctor. If you would like to talk to him about a specific one look in the book What to Expect When You Expecting. There is a great one in there....
