An honest and accurate answer to your question is a bit harder to provide than you might realize.

If you come to the U.S., you will have to do it on a work visa, a student visa, or a tourist visa. The work visa is the most difficult to get, as you have to have an employment sponsor *before* you apply for the visa. If you obtain a student visa, you are required to already have a certain large amount of money in a bank account in your name (usually equal to 12 months of educational and personal expenses), and you are not permitted to work outside the college or university you study in. If you obtain a tourist visa, you are entitled neither to study nor to work.

Given these impossible rules, it's no surprise that people come here illegally. You are not likely to be prevented from attending university as an illegal alien, but you will have some barriers to obtaining employment, and what you do find, will be of the low-wage variety, unless you are either exceptionally talented in some way, or very attractive. You don't mention what kind of work you have done, so one cannot speak to specific fields you might be able to work in here. But I wish you the best.

It all depends on the field of work you are looking for and your skills and abilities. If you are a deligent person with a good work ethic you will have no problem finding a decent job. Good luck to you!
