It just astounds me that the people who have been voted into office are often the "least common denominators". They use language that inflames, misconstrues, and outright deceives! I don't know if they are just stupid and believe what they hear from the administration, or if the deliberately use these mind-tweaking terms to try to mold the masses into a compliant mass of lemmings!
I find it almost humerous, though, when Reps scream at Dems no matter what the Dems suggest. They contradict themselves!
What they really want is for Dems to say," Yes, Fearless Decider, we were wrong and we will do whatever you...ahem...decide". (And, if they did that, they'd still be blamed somewhere along the line.)
For several years during Reagan's term I said that he sounded like he had Alzheimers--he was always making up figures and statistics out of thin air. Turned out, I was right!
Now, I think that the "blow" and the alcohol have destroyed too many brain cells in poor ol' Dubya. And I also feel that he is paranoid. Wonder if my diagnosis will prove to be right on the mark again!
But, my point is this: Why can't intelligent Republicans get off the verbal band wagon, quit labeling everything with the party line approved sound bites, and really look at what the Dems have said. (Along with the generals, study groups, etc.) It's clear to me that we need to get out--fast, slow, or slow-bleed....There is no "win" to this war, because there is no clear enemy. We are supposed to be "helping", and the Reps are great for saying that everyone should help themselves. So, let's let them stand on their own, and run their own country!!!
(If the poor in this country asked for even one quarter as much "help" as we are trying "give" Iraq, we'd hear all sorts of yelling and screaming about "entitlement", "welfare state", etc.)
Please, Reps, believe that I support the troops! I do not support their current endeavor, but I recognize that they don't pick their assignments!

I find it absurd as well. But there are folk from the other side calling names as well.
Do those people who say the same things on here actually believe that liberals (or conservatives) are going to 'see the light' by being called such things? Why don't you try being more civilized.
What I'm worried about (politically) is that the new strategy in Iraq (securing Baghdad) was implemented now, instead of a long time ago, in order to serve a political purpose. This started after the November elections, when the Democrats were calling for a change in the Iraq War (for the most part, withdrawl) because we were not accomplishing much for the amount we were putting into it. So, let's say that this new plan starts to work famously (since the Senate is bogged down, I don't expect a withdrawl anytime soon), then the Republicans throw it in the face of the Dems, calling them everything you said, and then tacking, 'I told you so' on the end of it, when in reality, we could have been out by now if our new war strategy was not used as a politcal strategy. Thus, the name calling continues for a LONG time as Repubs take every minute to rub it in the faces of the Dems, who fell into the Repubs trap.

I used to believe that the Dem's supported the troops. But over the past month or so, it has become apparent that they are working their own agenda. An agenda designed to win the White House for their party in 2008.
At this point, I don't think there is any real concern for the troops, for the Iraqi people, for the stability of the Middle East, for the War on Terror, or for the American people. It is about winning the presidency.
And that is a sad commentary on our political system.

Every time I see or hear or read those kinds of sentiments, I think to myself, "They can't possibly really believe that...." But it would appear that the Republicans truly believe that the Democrats want to see failure in Iraq. Just so that they can be 'right'.
To that, all I can say is that it is a sad, sad time in the United States. Polarization of beliefs - to this extent - is extremely dangerous for every American. The hatred that has built up between the two sides is so out of control that it is ludicrous. And how can a bridge be built between such opposing and distant sides? Health and intelligent debate is an important part of the American political system...but nothing about this is healthy or intelligent.
So here's my question....is this a sign of the dumbing down of America, or the beginning of the end to a once great nation?

The democrats and leftist liberal extremists prepare propaganda like their communist acquaintances in North Korea, Iran and Cuba. Their messages study like those sent to us via Osama Bin weighted down and his lieutenants. they do no longer make sense! they think of that they'd reject the war and help troops on the comparable time, that's perplexing..... who's doing each and all of the required killing with the intention to guard the folk of the U. S.? the yank troops! in the event that they are completely against killing our enemies, do they anticipate us to easily permit terrorists save kidnapping and murdering human beings and our allies? the two you're patriotic and love the U. S. or you're against the war and the U. S. troops. there is not any midsection floor and exceedingly feeling sorry for our enemies on the comparable time. i'm specific that the terrorist communities are employing their little ones, elderly and handicapped with the intention to homicide human beings.....

Actually, one of the Iraq Study Group's suggestions WAS a brief surge, their word, to secure Baghdad. Bush is using other suggestions from the Group as well, just not the Iranian and Syrian diplomacy suggestion.
But, to answer your question, unfortunately there are idiots out there who do not understand that a person can support one thing while disagreeing with another. I know Democrats support the troops, but the message this nonbinding resolution sends to our soldiers could be construed as not supporting their mission. A mission that is happening anyway, regardless of any political waste being spewed within Congress.

I wish this contention were absurd.
I do not believe the democrats support the troops. I don't believe it is possible to support the troops while at the same time condemning the war and thus giving the enemy more confidence in an eventual victory if the democratic policy of withdrawal is successful.
Think about it.....whose policies do you think the terrorists are most concerned with? Why is that?
It will be a sad day if we fail in our commitments we have made to the Iraqi people who have supported the new government - literally risked their lives to vote - and continue to join forces against the radicals daily. Sad, indeed.

Anyone in the military I have talked to believes in what they are doing in Iraq. Most ( I did say most ) Dems publicly state they are against what the military is doing in Iraq.
Obviously if you do not support what the military is doing in Iraq then you do not support the military ( the troops ). That isn't hard to understand is it?
btw the Iraq study group... was that miltary people or lawyers?

Republicans are smart enough to realize that words, especially when repeated often enough, can shape opinion. Hitler did it, Stalin did it and now Bush does it. See what I just did there? Linked Bush to some pretty awful people, how original. I dislike these kind of bully tactics very much. I am a Liberal Democrat and I also served in the military, no one has the right to tell me I'm not patriotic or that I don't support the troops. I don't buy it and neither should you.

Its spin from both sides. Republicans will take their talking points as Democrats take theirs. Its all political BS....ie...partisanship. We need to do what is best for the country and in that regard it would mean coming up with a real plan/strategy of getting out of Iraq without losing face, something that those on the left would be better to figure out than those on the right.
