The season itself is 162 games long. According to the central bargaining agreement, teams can play no more than 20 consecutive days before having an off-day.
There is also spring training, which is generally about 30 games long, and there can be post-season play for any team. That's a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 29 games, but with more frequent off days.
Most players who remain uninjured for the whole of the season play upwards of 150 games in that season. Some will play every game of every season, sometimes for seasons on end. See Lou Gehrig and Call Ripken Jr for examples.
For someone unfamiliar with baseball (they are called games, not matches), that's an excellent question.

First of all they are not called matches, they are called games. And yes baseball players can and do play every single game of the season (162 games). It's can be difficult but it's not impossible. Most members of each team do in fact play nearly every game on the average.

Position players (non-pitchers) play nearly every day. A regular position player can play 130 - 150 games a year, if healthy. Starting pitchers play every 5th day in most situations, although they may pitch more often in playoffs or during other important series. Starting catchers may rest one day each week, due to the demanding physical nature of their position. Relief pitchers (thos who start the game in the bullpen) might pitch 3 - 5 times a week, depending on how much they pitch in any given game.

Starting pitchers pitch every 5th day...a good position player will play between 150 and 160 of the 162 games in the season.

If a player is healthy, he could possibly play every game in a season. However, managers try to look out for their players' healthy and sometimes give them games off. I think that the average baseball player (batter) plays at least 140 games a season when healthy.

If they are a normal healthy starter they will average between 125 and 140 games a year out of 162 played in a normal season

Depends on who they are... Call Ripken played 2100+ games in a row, Miguel Tejada hasn't missed a game in 6 years..... Pitchers don't pitch every game.... Field Players tend to play every game... unless they clinch a playoff berth and want to rest for the Post season coming up

most players play everyday, there are very few backups on the team so they must. Cal Ripken started a record 2,632 games in a row, over 16 seasons straight, followed by Lou Gerhig's 2,130 games.

They basically play every day unless they are injured. Baseball isn't really demanding physically. May I ask where you are from?
