What I mean is:

They say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Does this mean that if a "beautiful" woman were thought of by every man and woman on earth to be ugly, they don't look good?

If the "eye" of the beholder determines beauty, is it possible for a woman to not be beautiful?

Or are women beautiful no matter what people "see"

Can a woman still be beautiful, even if "the eye" of every beholder says she is ugly?

What I am wanting to know is, is beauty really defined by the eye of the beholder, or can a woman still be beautiful reguardless?

Post: For those who don't know, or are confused, I had forgotten to explain.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder is written in the bible. Sorry for the confusion. Just trying to see if you think that is right to view women that way.

Or if it is better to say that even if no-one thinks they look good, women still have beauty and worth reguardless.

Doesn't it seem kind of pointless to say the value of a woman's beauty is only based on how you see it?

Can't women still be worth something, even if someone doesn't like them?

Is the bible wrong or right on this one?

What I was wondering is, if everyone thought a certain lady was "ugly" & if beauty is only in the eye of the beholder, wouldn't that totally destroy the ladies self worth?

Can't beauty exist independent of whether others like how she looks?

The most important question I see in this is,
Why should her value and worth only be based on what others think she is?

Because if that is so, and everyone hated her, then that would make her totally worthless.

I don't see how anyone can be worthless though!!!

I personally think everyone has their own beauty no matter what others think, but was wondering if you thought this is a right or wrong way to judge women by this standard.

It is the Beholder which beholds the beauty. The beauty exists whether or not it is beheld.

If a tree falls in the middle of an empty forrest, does it make noise? Yes. The noise exists. Those who hear it will hear it and those who don't will not. The noise exists, just as the beauty exists.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but much of what we think is beautiful is decided by our DNA, and arguable more than that decided by the culture we grew up in. Society collectively decides whether someone is beautiful. Not that there's a vote or anything, but one person's opinion of someone's looks is, more often than not, mirrored by 99% of the human race.

Genetically, we look for signs that someone leads a healthy life: straight, well-cared-for teeth, facial symmetry, clear skin, etc.
Culturally, things get more complicated. I'm sure you've heard of, or seen, pictures of people with the crazy huge disk-earrings or those neck-elongating rings. Those things are considered beautiful in the cultures they came from.

So yes, it's entirely possible for a woman to be considered 'ugly' by a vast, vast majority of people. But not likely by EVERYBODY, though. Basically, toss "most of us" on the end of both sentences in the second paragraph.

What you're saying about women being beautiful no matter what people think is generally psychological on the woman's part. All women have the personal right to FEEL beautiful.

The concept of beauty is really, really complicated.

I think that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I also think that society plays a HUGE role as to what is beautiful. Now, the "beautiful" woman that you are talking about.... I assume that she is white, tan, loooooong brown hair, big blue eyes, legs as long as the day, and maybe 105 lbs soaking wet. She's probably a size four and pearly white teeth. I'm sure that I'm dead on.

I think that a woman is beautiful in more ways than just external appearances. I think that I am gorgeous... as does my husband and a lot of guys that I come in contact with. I am not "average" beauty though... I'm tall, long legs, long brown hair. I'm also black though. I don't dress trendy. I'm more of a tom boy skater-type chick. Guys think that I'm beautiful because I'm fun and outgoing and I speak my mind. I am intelligent and educated. My external beauty has absolutely nothing to do with who I am inside. I don't judge, I don't lie, cheat, steal.... I'm a genuine person. And I think, although I am externally pleasing to the eye, that all of my personality attributes outweigh my external looks by far.

So, even if a "gorgeous" woman weren't gorgeous by society standards, there would be people out there that would find her extremely attractive because there is more than meets the eye. Like they say: you can't judge a book by its cover.

Hope this helps.

well it's in the person who is looking at this women and it's not alwayswhat she will look like. it may be the things she do that make her beautiful or the way she talk or the way she make you feel about your self and others and that is beautiful. p.s I know some beautiful women and they have some pretty bad ways about themself and to me they don't look so beautilful to me you will see one day just keep dateing you will know what I see in people. good luck and happy v-day.
