It's a good story. :D
Martians invade, nothing can effect them, then they suddenly all keel-over from the common cold. Seems they don't have any ability to fight viruses.
He also read it on-air as part of a radio play. Unfortunately, there was only one advance notice that it was a fictitious story, and there was panic in upstate New York(?) over the reports of marauding aliens slaughtering poor defenceless people, and eradicating entire military units to a man.
Anything else, I'd suggest reading it, or at least renting the *original* movie.

It was first and foremost a radio program, one that created mass hysteria when first aired. Buy it and listen to it. You could likely download it for free.
