I've included a link to a salary calculator. These are pretty accurate, usually to about 5% difference.

Just put in what you CURRENTLY make and the city you are closest to or live in, and then select which city in Texas you are moving to, and it will pop you up a number. Then you will know if 2.7k is doable.

A quick way to see is to look at how much it costs per month for a house or apartment that you'd like to live in. The monthly rent/mortgage should be 1/4 or less of your monthly income. Looking at the housing costs there can also give you an idea of the difference in living costs. For example, where I live, a lot of houses cost around 150k and making 40k a year is a pretty decent living. I looked at places a few hours south a while ago and they were about 500k so 40k is nothing, you would need more like 80k a year to do as well.

Do a quick budget. It is impossible to say. If you have a car payment and other debt, and you want to live in an expensive area then 2,700 might be difficult to live on.
Also what do you make now, and what are you expenses? Use that as a base.

You can find some cheap rents in Texas. Their cost of living is not as high as other places like New York City and Southern California.

You should be able to support your family on that income, but if you desire more, than do not settle.

Depends on where you want to be in Texas. In Austin that would not be as much as in some of the more rural parts. So in the big cities you may have trouble making ends meet on that but in the smaller towns it won't be as much of a problem.
