I have been trying to figure out what "me" is.

If I can figure it out, it will help understand how to prolong life.

I know I am, and I know I am me, but:

I think of me in my body. Were I to have my arms and legs cut off, they would cease being me, yet I still am.

Were all my body cast away and my brain was on life support, still, I am.

But the brain is not me. I am, and I am independent, with my own thoughts and desires.

Where do these thoughts and desires come from? How am I me?

What makes me think, know that I am, makes me a "conscious" being, aware that I simply am?

How do I define the real me, where is the information for "me" really stored?

What is conscience?

I have been trying to figure out what makes me me, how I know that I am.

Let me add more.

What I want to know is:
If I had another brain, could I install me on it?
If I knew what I am, could I "save" me for reinstall after I die later on?

Is me a piece of information like the data on computers? What seperates me from computers where my thinking is "live"?

How do I think but computers only "think" based on what they were given?

What is it that makes me able to decide things without any outside assistance?

The 'me' that is the ultimate me, is not material, or physical..
altho the material that is, and the physical that is ,are no less so than am "I".
My spirit is loaned to this material, my physical self expresses it...
and "I" orecestrate the harmony and symphony that for 'me' is my life .
"I" share a kin-ship with other life, recognise the spirit we liveing share.."i" am a simpel pigment, in lifes rainbow, ..'me', a spirit color,..in a portrate ,.. of the face of spirituality,..
Your "i" ..and mine ..and the eagel's, or the whale's, are but on a journey ,..and we share this 'time' on this heavenly orb together.. companions .. springing from, and returning too the same eternal sorce.
Visually I discern difference between the diverse and various life here on this councious plain, ..know well the struggeling tenasity to survive.
"i" wish this humanity i am a representitive of were a bit more reverent of other liveing things,..death surely apeals to not a singel one.
This shared spirit "i" am, is the same spirit that observes "me" from the eagels lofty soar, the whales tidal home, or the equines dusty corral.
I pretend some kingly relationship,.. admire that sameness in the lions , the bugel of a lordly bull elk, or the peacefull trust of a butterfly paused for just a moment on my knee.
How indeed am "I" me,..when "i" could have so evidently been so many other varrious things...
I am a pigment, in a paint, that is a stroke of artistry, of a portrate, of the face of the god i know,.. life gives Spirit these opertunitys, spirit gives life its time in the sun, and 'i' have me to discover the counsiousness of being.

You are a body and a brain. Your body is run by your central nervous system. http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/nsdivide.html

You have thoughts which come from two sources. One is objective, one is subjective. Your subjective self holds your emotions and feelings. It defines what you like and dont like. Your objective self simply takes in the world as it is, objectively. You should not be too subjective. It helps to be objective when dealing with the world. But to be human, you need to have thoughts and feelings so that you can decide what to do about many things.

To define yourself, it helps to know who your parents are and who your ancestors were. This helps define you to yourself because then you know your background. You have been shaped by those who raised you. They have given you a sense of self. When you are all grown up, you will have your own sense of self based upon what you have done and your own self image. Conscience is formed from learning right from wrong.
Society also defines right and wrong with laws. Your memories are the source of your feelings. Your emotions are based upon your feelings. You are also shaped by your life experiences and how you deal with them. Just accept yourself as a human being who is not always right, but who has the capacity to learn.

You are instantiated in your brain. You did not cast your brain away. Complete your " logical progression ", or you are just cheating.

Your past experiences that you build up since when you started remembering is what makes you "you". Upbringing, knowledge, relationships, trauma, religion, etc. etc.
