Increasing the speed of bruise recovery
Bruising results from the release of blood from the capillaries into the tissues under the skin. The characteristic bluish-black mark on the skin lightens in colour and eventually fades as the blood is absorbed by the tissues and carried away. Bruising usually occurs as a result of an injury, but can occasionally be spontaneous and an indication of an allergic reaction, or more serious disease.

Eat foods high in bioflavonoids, originally called Vitamin P. A bioflavonoids primary job is to protect the capillaries, keep them strong and to prevent bleeding. Bioflavonoids are also anti-inflammatory. Lemons, green peppers, broccoli and rose hips are good sources of bioflavonoids. If taking bioflavonoid supplements, for the best absorption into the body, take with Vitamin C.

One could also bathe the area with Witch hazel, which disperses the blood and encourages healing. Witch hazel is an astringent, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic.

When I was playing jazz some years ago, I would occasionally "blow out my lip"--which means it would bruise and swell. As any good brass player will tell you, you can use hot and then cold compresses on the bruise to heal faster. Do this several times successively. The hot compress makes the blood rise and the cold compress makes it recede which promotes healing to the area. Repeat the process several times each day. It's not a miracle cure, but it does speed up the healing. Good luck.

Food high in iron. Anaemics lack sufficient iron in their blood. Bruising is result of this condition. Although this is a preventative measure, I don't think it will help you too much after your incident. You can also prevent bruising by applying ice IMMEDIATELY to the area you've sustained a hard knock. As far as existing bruises, there's no really good measure you can take, apart from applying super strength vitamin E moisturiser. It's NOT advised but some say asprin helps as it thins the blood. Alcohol can also work as an anti-clotting agent. But I think the side effect on your body's immune system will cancel out alcohols effective properties.

good luck...when you see a bruise, it means that there was enough trauma to damage some blood vessels and they leaked...by the time you see a bruise...it can be a long as a week or a few days...
it will slowly fade over the next 7-10 days...nothing that you can do to hurry mother nature along
do not take aspirin...this may extend the size and healing time
sorry

Check out the local Whole Foods or health food shop and
pick up some "Traumel"...it helps heal bruises three times
faster than anything else including diminishing the swelling
and lightening the blue and yellow color.

If you soak in a tub of very warm water and Epsom salts your bruise will fade considerably by the next morning. I know this to be effected because the day before my husband had a physical for a new employer he was kicked in the knee by a horse. His knee turned completely black and we knew they would check his knees. He soaked (and soaked) his leg all day and the color was gone by that next afternoon. It even helps with soreness.

I wan't aware you could make a bruise heal faster than it does on its own. Isn't it broken blood vessles under the skin, you can't really help that out right? Well I would suggest not poking it...

I would say ice. Put it on the bruise for as long as you can stand it, and repeat as often as you can tolerate
