I'm expecting a VERY important package...I needed it today but the person I purchased from on eBay didn't tell me she'd be sending it out 4 days after I purchased it. Or I wouldn't have bought it from her. (Not a valentines thing...birthday cake thing for my daughter). So my question is...if I call the post office in the morning, will they tell me if I am expecting a package that day?

I live in a small town, and don't even have a normal mail truck to deliver. Things are always just left by my door, never getting a notice. When I've called about a box of boxes that I ordered, they knew right away what I was talking about. So it's a small post office.

In a small office, this really shouldn't be a problem. As long as all the mail is worked and the carrier has not left on his route, they should be able to tell you if it arrived, tracking number or no. They can simply check the carrier"s parcel hamper. Not really a big deal. Keep in mind, though, that they are not allowed to tell you where the parcel originated from over the phone, so if you are expecting more than one parcel it may not be the "right" one.

Calling the P O to ask without a tracking number would be useless since they have thousands of packages.if the P O tries to deliver a package and you are not home they will leave a notice an orange slip about 3" by 5" in size. Form # 3849 if you have the orange slip then you can go to the P O and pick it up.
Hope you get it in time for the occasion

Unfortunately probably not unless you have a tracking number from the sender. USPS can only tell you if they have a package waiting in their office. If you feel it is lost they sometimes can do some things to try and track the package down, but there are no guarantees on that.

Whenever I buy something on E-bay that I need in a hurry I contact the sellar and ask them if the package can be tracked. Ask the post office if the can track your package. Usually the post office will tell you if you you are going to get a package.

not without a tracking number

if you had one - you could go to www.usps.com and track it
they could tell you where it was 'last'

but it's not like UPS or Fedex - where they will tell you expected
day of delivery

if it's regular mail - it gets there when it gets there - sorry
