I'm sure that Soriano will be able to hold up his end of the bargain. The question is will the money they spent on pitching be able to come through?

This is the real deal...
Postion players keep you at .500 dunring the reg season. Cubs have great position players.
Pitching gets you to.650- .700 (in position to win divisions or squeak in on the wildcard). Cubs have 1 ace and a bunch of questions.
A good 4 starters puts you in position to win it all. Cubs have no shot with that pitching (that said... go and put 100 on em in Vegas!)
They spent a lot to be a .500 team that will miss the playoffs.

As a cubs fan i want to say yes, but as a baseball fan im gonna say no. believe it or not team chemistry is a big part of winning it all. which is why the yankees hasnt in so long, they keep changing theyre lineup and adding/losing players. the cubs have alot of good players on their team. for one they need key players to stay healthy. and two, it will ultimately pay off, but not this year.

Pay off as in get out of the last place? Yes.
Pay off as in make the playoffs? No.
I think they will finish around .500 and will "contend" in the weak NL Central division. If nothing else, it should be entertaining.

Yes because Soriano adds 40+ steals and 40+ homers but they may not win the division, the Cards are too good.

im big with the Cubbies but no, they need to fire Baker and get started with the pitching and keeping Zombrano. He is a star player ang a good pitcher and keep good players, like when they get rid of Maddox last year

How did they improve their pitching. IF it is as good as 3 years ago, then yes. If it is not improved significantly, then they will be no better than Bill Madlock and Carmon Fanzone.
