ok.. about a week and a half ago, i got in an arguement with one of my best friends. lets call her lizzy. the fight started because a rumor got started about lizzy and her boyfriend(both in 8th grade with me) having sex and lizzy being pregnent. i would NEVER do something like that to my best friend, but lizzy's highly influencial friends told her i did. she wouldn't believe me that i didnt start it(i was one of the only people she told that she was getting close to it, but the rumor was started for a different reason). so lizzy wouldnt believe me no matter what that i didnt start it. by this time shes really mad at me and cant stand me. at lunch last tuesday, she cursed me out and told me that she never wanted anything to do with me ever again. unfortunately she knows my 2 BIGGEST secrets(both being rather embaressing and not something i want people knowing) so i was scared. she is good friends with alot of my good friends, so they went on her side. alot of them still dislike me.....

Aww, that is a shame that your close friend did not trust you, but am glad you have worked it all out. I have a daughter in 8th grade, and my advice to you is to be yourself and be confident in who your are. It is a shame all the things you will go through, but once you hit college, believe me, you will seldom associate with many of these classmates. Your friend has seen the light and is talking to you, and soon the sheep that followed her will also begin talking to you, be patient. Just try to remember who your true friends are, and try to make connections with the ones that don't make you feel awful, and that you have fun with! I always tell my daughter, secrets are best kept to yourself, or with your family, because even your closest friends may not be able to keep quiet. I think things will get better for you though as you enter HS.

Oh, you're so very young -- you are. Don't worry too much about the gossips - you cannot control what people say about you. You have control over your character. What does your character says about you? That's all it matters. Stay away from the troublemakers.
