if you have a copy of windows xp then get the upgrade windows vista. It well ask you if you have a copy of windows 98SE windows me disc or windows xp then you can do t he upgrade to Windows vista home premium. Or other wise get the full version there won't be windows vista home 2nd edition only morons would tell you that.

The upgrade if for someone who already owns a windows os. If you are buying a new version of vista with out owning a previous windows os you need to pay the full price.

One is a full installation the other is an upgrade.
For the upgrade you need to already have windows XP installed, if you dont have windows XP right now installed you will need to buy the full installation.

If u hav an original Windows XP, u can purchase an upgrade version. If u dont go for the other.

Before you buy vista GOOGLE "microsoft vista problems and issues"
Then while you are waiting for MS to fix vista try UBUNTU. It's a free, reliable and up to date operating system. The programs are also FREE!!! If you want to jazz it up install BERYL.

upgrade will always be cheaper, microsoft already took some of your money when you bought the other version so it's just nice of them to charge you less because of that.
