Yes. Competition breeds excellence. Imagine if all restaurants were government run. What do you think the food would be like? Since there would be no competition, you wouldn't be able to go somewhere else. So, there would be no incentive to offer good food, good service, or even good prices.
It is the same in education. Look at the public schools. No nation on the face of the earth has ever spent what this country spend on education. How do American students compare scholastically with the rest of the world? Not very well, I'm afraid.
Even though everybody pays taxes to support the public )government) schools, some parents elect to send their children to private or parochial schools. Over one million students are home-schooled. Why is this? Because the public schools are not giving a good education.
If you go to college, you have to take a test to get in. Most students have to take remedial courses before they actually start college. Again, no competition.

Of course!
these r some ideas:
-if u get to compete against ppl, education can be more... u kno... funner.
-when you have a competition in education, there's a better chance that ppl will participate more
-if you join the competition, even if ure not interested, you can learn a lot from it.
-(if this is, lyke, a persuasive essay) give examples of people that do bad in education who can be helped by joining a competition.
