Usually RAM for a laptop won't fit into a desktop PC - it's the wrong size and shape.

no, you can't. notebook memory needs to be more compact than desktop memory. moreover, upgrading the memory in a notebook computer is a little more difficult than in a desktop simply for the fact that you probably have to buy the ram modules from your notebook's manufacturer, where as with a desktop, is compatible with ram made by multiple manufacturers and is more readily available
