Some the names that have been thrown out there: Ron Rivera (Chicago Bears D-Coordinator), Jim Haslett (St. Louis Rams D-Coordinator), Norv Turner (SF 49ers O-Coordinator), and Mike Singletary (SF 49ers Asst. Head).
I'm leaning towards Rivera but there's also been rumors that they could go after Turner for head coach and outbid the Bears for Rivera as defensive coordinator.
Who do you think they hire for Marty's old spot? Anybody who isn't mentioned here?

I've heard the Pete Carroll talk as well, but I think there's a better chance of Marty getting his job back then that happening.

I agree with the answer a few above me that said Jimmy Johnson. He is great friends with the owner, would be coaching in one of the most beautiful cities in America and taking over a team that just went 14-2. I believe that is the only kind of situation that could bring him back. I can't believe there aren't more people jumping at the chance to take over this job. That being said I'm a Raider fan so I'd love to see Norv Turner take them over cuz I know he's crap and we need all the help we can get :)

I personally don't like the decision that the Chargers organization made to fire Marty Schottenheimer but thats business i guess. Another name that was thrown out there was Mike Martz (Lions Offensive Coordinator/Former St. Lois Rams Head Coach). I personally dont think that he has a real chance at the job though seeing as how he really didnt handle his first head coaching job well. He is however a great offensive coordinator. I would say the two ex-bears stars have the best shot at being the next Chargers head coach (Singletary and Rivera). I just hope whoever the Chargers get works out because that team is too talented not to get a superbowl appearance within the next 2-3 years.

i think they will go 10-6, but that doesn't make the hire right. can we all agree that the chargers are probably the most talented team in the nfl. due to the salery cap, they have a 3 to 5 year range to be that team, until players get too expensive and they have to let some of them go. All the chargers needed this year is a coach without any doubts. a figurehead, if you will. someone that they can respect, because, honestly, i could coach the chargers. hb dive every play and they would still win. norv turner is not the right guy. he lead a marginally successful offense last year with a probowl rb, how will they respect him in that way? he has a terrible past record, no dice there either. i can't see the team respecting him, which might lead to a one-and-done

You'll end up with Norv Turner (he's buddies with the owner). And forget Rivera as D coordinator. Why would he leave the Bears for the same job he already has there? He won't do a lateral move like that.

Turner bombed as the Redskins coach I'm leaning towards Singleterry, or Mike Martz who knows offense and hates D, just like the Chargers

I think that rumor is that former cowboys and dolphins coach Jimmy Johnson is really good friends with the owner of the chargers and that he might come out of retirement to coach the very talented chargers team.

I think that firing Marty was a huge mistake, but I think they will talk Jimmy Johnson out of retirement. He has a relationship with the org., and he will only have to worry about on field talent.
