I bought a brand new pair of jeans but they were too light so I decided to dye them darker. I first used RIT denim color dye, that turned them a light purple/blue color, then I tried mixing navy blue and black, that turned them a dingy, blue with pink hue to it! What should I do now? I'm considering bleaching them, and trying to get all the color out.

Any suggestions?!?!?!

Thanks!

Your jeans aren't fading just because the colour is going out: they're also looking faded because the individual threads that make up the denim are getting worn and breaking. This fuzziness makes the fabric look dark grey instead of black. What's more, the broken fibres won't hold on to any dye you apply to them now: they dye might stick for one or two washings, but no more. Given that the Rit can be deposited on the outer drum of the washing machine and affect any load you wash after it (and possibly ruin other clothing) you'll probably save money if you simply buy new jeans. Rit also doesn't work that well, especially not the black which generally turns things medium grey.

Look on the same shelf where you bought the dye. There should be something called color remover. Rit makes it. I've always bought it in a box but it may come in a bottle also. Anyway, it should at least return your jeans to their original & probably a lighter shade, if not white. Hint, When my family was growing up, I used it in my white laundry. Sure made a difference too..good luck.

NEVER DYE YOUR JEANS!!!
It'll only ruin their texture and color. Bleaching causes the fabric to ruin faster.

I tried to dye my once dark blue denim levi's that was fading in color and the result was horrible. Now, I just wear my jeans out until they've got the 'cool used-jeans' appearance.

Jeans are almost a daily outfit for most people. So you really have to be careful while buying them. They come in so many shapes, colors and sizes, you have to be really fussy and ask a lot of questions to the salesperson when buying 'em. Cos, jeans aren't cheap either.

If you try bleach it will only turn them lavender...if you like lavender go ahead.
Dye will only work on 'virgin' fabric. If you bought them and they were stone washed, dirty (brown) washed, or some how faded, then the dye will only take on the portions that were, bleached/stone washed.
Rit makes dye remover...color remover...you can try again. But
1 pkg of dye isn't enough for jeans...you'd need 2-3 for 1 pair.
(so if you want to experiment, try to remove color and re-dye with denim 2-3 pkgs and SALT in hot water...but don't say I didn't tell you so, if they come out lavender...)

You f-ed up

Dont mess with dyes unless you know what you are doing.

Just forget it and get another pair of jeans.

And use these ones for painting, landscaping, or heavy construction :-)
