We are thinking about naming our baby girl Gabrielle or Gabriella but we are not sure if the name is associated with any ethnicities. We are both white. Also, what middle names do you like?

Just to clarify, some names have certain ethnicities and nationalities associated with them. I do not believe this should be new information for anyone living on planet earth for more than ten years. For example, names such as Jose and Juan are Hispanic. Additionally, Ryan and Sean are Irish names. Furthermore, Jacob and Anthony are Italian names while Mohammed and Shadi are Arab names.
I do not think my question makes me racist or offensive. Anyone that is offended by my question is probably extremely oversensitive. It is a sad reflection of the world in which we live. I only hoped to learn general impressions of a name from a small sample of individuals.

Gabrielle is the french version.
Gabriella is the latin/hispanic version.
Both are beautiful though, and I'm pretty sure they've made their way into mainstream by now.
I lean in the direction of Gabrielle. It's a very regal name to me.
I would go with a french middle name too...
Like:
Gabrielle Josephine
Gabrielle Alexine
Gabrielle Madeleine

When I hear the name Gabrielle or Gabriella, I think of a brunette, but not any certain ethnicity tied with the names.
Though Gabrielle is a french name and Gabriella is italian (or Gabriela, which is the spanish spelling).
Name your kid what you want! Good Luck and congrats on the baby girl!

I never thought of it as belonging to any race imparticular. I have known a few Gabrielles. I love the name! The Gabbys I've know where white, black, and a hispanic. So I never made an association with a race. By the way, they were all very sweet and smart girls!

Well my name is Gabriella but no one ever calls me that. I have been called gabby or gab my whole life. I have insisted on being called Gabrielle but it never sticks for long. Older people will butcher your daughters name and call her Gabriel no matter how many times you correct them. I would not suggest the name b/c she will be called gabby or gabu, unless you like those nicknames. By the way I am Italian and my middle name is Carla.

Both I associate with a German background- as far as a middle name with it? Stick with something short since Gabrielle is long. It's really hard to say without knowing your last name. Good luck!

Gabrielle sounds french, and Gabriella sounds latina.
But name your baby whatever you like, just not strange ones so they won't be bothered with the names when they're growing up.
For middle names, how about Rose or Anne?

After reading your question I thought of Gabrielle as a blond with blue eyes. I have no idea why. But...immediately after I had that thought I thought of Gabrielle Union, an actress I really like, and she's African American. So, I guess for me it's ethnically neutral. I think names always get associated with who you knew with that name.
