Recently i bought a new ethernet cable for my computer. I had broken the tabs that snap it in on my old one. But with this new cable my connection dose not seam quite as fast. I recently took note that it was a crossover cable, I don't really know much about computers i just would like to know if this could be the problem?

If it works, GO FOR IT. You see, if it works, then your router or modem is doing the CROSS OVER back so that it works.

If your high speed seems slower, I would suspect SpyWare. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.

This double whammy will help keep you safe and running faster

Good luck and Happy Computing!

A cross-over cable is required for computer to computer networking. If it wasn't a crossover that you needed it wouldn't work full stop.

As for slowing your Internet down, it is possible but highly unlikely.

Your network cable can handle up to either 100 or 1000mbps... if you can get Internet above 100 then you are doing extremely well.

Is it just as fast sending files from one computer to another? if not then it could be the cable. if yes then contact you ISP (Internet service provider) as it is probably your Internet connection

a crossover cable is meant to be used to network two computers without a router or hun or whatever. the wires inside it are crossed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet_crossover_cable I think that it could slow down your connection because the cable is meant for a different purpose.

Look on the back of your pc's. You should see a port that looks like a large phone jack. That is your ethernet port. It is usually noted by a little symbol that has to square boxes over a line that has 3 square boxes underneath it.
