Our country has been fighting over Pro-life and Pro-choice for a long time, but why not make contraceptives even more accessible than now in order to prevent pregnancies from occurring in the first place? Contraceptives are available but simple things like making the pill over the counter and distributing condoms on a large scale like Brazil has done could reduce both the number of unwanted pregnancies and abortions. It seems to me that if people were serious about putting a stop to abortion, this would be the first place to start.

Man, that answer is right on. Only problem is that the Pro-Life folks are anti-birth control too.

Ultimately, they really only want people to make love when they are making babies....

I can get condoms at Wal-Mart or for free at the clinic. I'd say they're pretty freakin' available. You'd have to bulk mail them to every house to be MORE accessible. Maybe take a cue from the ice-cream truck man. I can just see horny men chasing it down the street with one hand holding their pants up and the other waving a fiver. It'd HAVE to play "Let's Get It On" as it's jingle.

why is there any debate, abortion is legal and is unlikely to be overturned...the only people "debating" it are the minority that wants to see the laws changed.....contraceptives should be free to everyone and except for Kansas, most people are OK with any method that terminates a pregnancy within 48 hours of contraception...those that think otherwise are extremists

Um...contraceptives ARE extremely available. Almost all communities have some sort of public health center. Condoms are available for purchase at just about ANY store. How much more available should they be?

I think so too. we need more education, more prevention, and I'm fine with emergency mother's shelters opening up to provide housing, supplies and care to women who don't want to have an abortion but have limited resources

I think if people are against abortions then they shouldn't have one. We are suppose to be land of the free, but everytime you turn around people want to push what they believe on you. I think everyone should be able to have choices without other people forcing their beliefs down your throat.

Works for me. Just because birth control is available does *not* mean people are going to run out and start having more sex, honestly :-)

true, I like the idea of making people get a card that will prove that they have received education on parenting and can afford the child before trying to make one.
