They're just as great as any other luxury brand.

Prestige is completely subjective for sure, but Infiniti tends to fall a bit short due to a few factors:

Like Acura, Infiniti offers mostly FWD luxury sedans, which to the high priced buyer reads more as a optioned out econobox.

Nissan tends to be the "lower end" of the Japanese imports anyway. Plagued with recent problems in quality, Nissan and Infiniti have been trying to over come certain hurdles even within enthusiast circles. The G35, the best selling recent model Infiniti has had numerous quality control issues including manual tranny, clutch and rear problems.

Although Infiniti still makes a good car, due to its lower price than say Lexus or MB or BMW, its looked at also as a budget luxury option. Does it make it worse than those? No, not necessarily. I would certainly put Lexus ahead of MB, BMW and Infiniti in overall reliability - especially since MB and BMW have much lower than expect QC and overall reliable rankings, but I would say I would have more faith in Infiniti products. Although quality of materials used will go towards the other big lux brands in most cases.

It's all about advertising. Infinity is basically a Nissan, just like Lexus is the same as Toyota and Acura is made by Honda. It's the same as a Mercury being an upmarket Ford. Just like the Oldsmobile Bravada was a Chevrolet Blazer, which was also a GMC Jimmy.

Other companies do this, too. The VW Jetta is the same as an Audi A4. Only the options list varies - what's standard, what options are offered, and what options you can't get unless you buy the upmarket brand. For example, the Chevy Blazer was offered with 4WD. But the Olds Bravada came with full-time AWD. This wasn't offered on the other models - if you wanted it, you had to buy the Olds.

It's all about how they present themselves.

I'd have to differ with you on this one- being that they just aren't as great as any other brand....I own a QX56 and it's by far and away the most luxurious SUV out there. Hands down it puts anyone else to shame. It drives like a sports car- handles incredibly well considering it's size. The interior is immaculate; having the map screen, dual headrest DVD players, amazing sound, leather seats, etc. The exterior is sleek and powerful. While it is on the same body as the Armada, the QX56 is by far and away more stylish and luxurious looking- from the grill to the rims.

While Infiniti might not have a 'fleet' to match Porsche or BMW, you have to give them 1st place for their QX56. It is the most luxurious SUV out there!

They are the "prestige" Nissan, That is why there isn't a high end Infinity, they are already a high end car. My boss has the QX4 or also known as the Pathfinder with infinity badges and a leather package and wood trim.
