Consider that Midway is a major airport and Ohare is the king of airports in the world. The odds of seeing many planes in the sky are not out of this world. I can easily see about 6 at one time in the sky all at different altitudes.

I l ive right by Ohare ( the runways are about 3 miles from my house) On a clear night in all directions you can easily see 30-35 planes in the sky and thats not even being able to see everything because the runways at ohare are so large and spread out

O'Hare is in the center of the United states and the busiest airport in the world. I live 20 minutes east of O'hare airport so i hear a plane go by every few minutes. I drown out the sounds and i have gotten used to them. Obviously the closer the proximity to the airport the more you will hear the planes.
