Hi, I'm no expert on the subject but to answer your question, yes and no. There is a salt water fish called a clown fish. But also there is a freshwater fish called a clown loach. Google clown fish and you come up with the salt water type. Google clown loach and it comes up with the freshwater type. I hope this gives you a clue to your question.

well there are other fish that have clown in there title but they arent the true clown fish for example clown loach there is a reason they cant survive in salt water and it has to do with the salt itself saltwater fish(marine) need to keep a certain amount of salt in there blood stream to stay perfectly healthy i believe its 1/3 of the amount of salt found in salt water at a gravity of 1.025

Clown fish are salt water fishes and small ones only about 2 inches. Also if there are two of the same sex clown fish in the same 'habitat' one will change its sex. The whole Nimo story overlooked that part, one of them would have turned female.

If you're thinking of the type of clownfish that Nemo is, they are marine.
Clown loaches are freshwater though.
